Or just try the 'admin' account in Winscp instead of Smeghain

Smeghain is in the admin group and has a check mark I also tried to login as an admin in winscp too but neither have worked... I just looked and in the user group in the admin in DSM

in permissions it doesnt have any listings for Emby i have access to other things like docker and so on but no entry for EmbyServer ?

The only permissions you should have to set are the ones for your shared folders using the system internal user 'emby'.  When you installed Emby server it would have set the needed permissions for its folders like in the picture below.

It sounds like the script just didn't run for some reason and you need to be su to modify that xml file.  The only other method I can think of would be to use command line tools like powershell, terminal, etc.  You could copy and then modify the file and save it to your Windows PC.  Then copy it back using command line.  You will need to do the 'sudo -i' command though to copy it back.

Is Smeghain a member of the group 'administrators' in DSM?  Or, does it just have admin privileges?

To check if it's a member.

  • Control Panel
  • User & Group
  • Click Group tab
  • Double click 'administrators'
  • Click the 'Members' tab
  • Smeghain should have a check in the box

Just to be sure, the following box is set to run the task as 'root'.  You log in as admin, but the script itself runs as root.

OK i managed to copy across the system.xml file and had modified the enable remote access and i removed all references to the 192.168.0.* ip address and tried to run emby again, it just comes back in the web browser "Forbidden" image.png.5fed6f647a808387dce9dca51c779be8.png

Can you show me a screenshot of the permissions on the file after you copied it back?  Like the one I posted above.

If all is fine with the new file then @Lukemay have to jump back in.

When i click on the 3 dots, i dont get any options to rescan or such like i normally would when i go in to the libaries in the add libraries theres nothing there, so might just need to readd them ?

Maybe check your system internal user 'emby' has access to the shared folders you're using

I saw a reply in a thread about re-adding libary and they suggested removing libary.db file to fix the problem ?

If it's still not working sure

library.db is in the following

/volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer/data

You will probably need to shutdown Emby and ssh into your NAS as su again to delete that file

Just a heads up for anyone following this. I had to readd and rescan all the media folders and i then had to create a new user for the media

to show up on the home screen (for some reason it wouldnt let me do that on the original user) but everythings back up, now the joyus task

of going through all the metadata and making sure its correct for each movie/tv show etc.....see you lads in a few months.....

Once again thanks to @FrostByteand @jake and anyone else I missed who contributed to helping me sort this out :)

Ok so the server is back up but the original problem i had with it not connecting to anything outside of the web browser and tv app remains.

Ive tried using the IP address to manually add the server, no luck, it sees the server but tells me that "unable to reach "server" we're unable

to connect to the selected server right now please ensure its running (it is) and try again....any ideas anyone ?
