DraconisMaximus 0 Posted December 7, 2025 Posted December 7, 2025 Hello, I am having an issue where my Emby Server is not using the full resources available to it resulting in unnecessary excessively long scan times and slow transcodes. My setup is a Kali Purple VM running on TrueNAS Scale. The VM is allotted 8 cores / 16 threads of two 12/24 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v3 @ 2.50GHz CPUs and 32 of 128 GB DDR4 2133 RAM. By the VM's own readout Total system CPU usage is steady around 5 -10% and RAM usage is capping around 50%. Timings are 10-15 minutes to Process a new movie including preview thumbnails and multiple movies seem to be being processed in serial rather than in parallel. It seems that Emby is self throttling or just not multithreading correctly. I know this is a generally lengthy resource intensive process but that is even more reason to use all of there available resources. I do have the Enable full speed conversion option enabled. Is there anything way to remove further throttles? From what I can tell the system is giving Emby every resource it is requesting. Any help is much appreciated
Luke 42077 Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!
DraconisMaximus 0 Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Sorry for the late response but life happens. Emby only saves logs for a day or two at the most so by the time of your reply, the relevant logs had already been auto purged. Looking at the downloaded logs raised further questions. Even with the "Anonymize log contents" switch active the logs are still full of identifying data that should have been removed including IP Address, File Paths, and Exact File Identifiers. You also should not need any user specific information to answer questions about the general design and function of your product. Questions like "Does Emby support multithreading?", "Will Emby use all resources available to it or does it self throttle and if so can this behavior be disabled?", and "Does the 'Transcode Throttling' switch affect other video processing tasks like thumbnail and preview generation?" should not require and user specific information.
Luke 42077 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Hi, there is multi threading some aspects of the scan but some operations are limited to one at a time. the reason to ask for log files is because we might be able to suggest some changes to library options to speed up your scans.
