Luke 42077 Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Hi, I would try running a library scan and see if that helps.
chrisrobbins1970 82 Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 (edited) I have done that, same issue.... Would it matter that the audio is EAC3? Same issue on different Rokus. Edited December 4, 2025 by chrisrobbins1970
chrisrobbins1970 82 Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 Subtitles show on the web browser using Firefox

That doesn’t matter because the subtitles are not part of the ffmpeg output. They are downloaded separately by the player.
chrisrobbins1970 82 Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 (edited) Well I confirmed that it does matter.... I had a backup of Rogue One with AAC 5.1 audio and the subtitles show with no issues... So something with Roku and EAC3 5.1 and .srt subtitles don;t mix well. I understand why the Roku will transcode the EAC3 5.1 audio; but not let .srt subtitle files to shows; its only with that codec. Edited December 4, 2025 by chrisrobbins1970
chrisrobbins1970 82 Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 (edited) UPDATE: Had a thought this morning..Changed the Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016).en.forced.srt to Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016).en.srt; and it shows the subtitles on Roku as ENGLISH, but that is ok.as long as the subtitles shows up. I'm good. I guess roku/emby does not like EAC3 5.1 audio using Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016).en.forced.srt Edited December 4, 2025 by chrisrobbins1970
visproduction 315 Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Does Rogue One have burnt in subs for alien languages anyway? https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21867 Quote Re: Star Wars Alien Subtitles Post by aibeira » Sat Apr 04, 2020 10:19 pm I checked, and it appears that among other possible changes to the blu-rays in the Best Buy "Skywalker Saga" set, the blu-rays of the movies all seem to have the alien language subtitles burned in, unlike previous blu-ray versions where the alien language subtitles were a separate track.
speechles 2055 Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 @chrisrobbins1970The next time you have this happen can you check for the m3u8 it created? You will need to do this as the Roku is playing so it doesn't delete it. The m3u8 will show how the subtitles were packaged and sent. The ffmpeg log shows the Roku requested them. But like @Lukementioned the Roku should fetch these from the URL in the m3u8 manifest. If you can provide that we can for sure see what is happening. Thanks. 1
nmalinoski 3 Posted December 27, 2025 Posted December 27, 2025 I've had subtitles disappear altogether, even when selected, on my Roku Ultra, but it wasn't _just_ in Emby, it was in Hulu, too. Toggling subtitles on and off in the apps or at the system level had no effect. The only thing that would bring the subtitles back was to reboot the Roku.
