PiP broken on mobile?

Not sure exactly when this issue started, but I've noticed as of late that the PiP button no longer appears when I am watching on mobile. In addition, if I swipe to go home, I lose my content. The only way to get PiP is if I click a notification and go from there.

 

Has anyone else run into this rather odd issue?

I use 3 button navigation, PiP engages automatically when hitting the home button. Sounds like you're using gesture navigation? Is that the native way to go to the home screen with gesture navigations or does that normally just close the app in focus?

Yeah, I use gesture nav....weird that it works with 3 button. I just tested that myself and it works as expected

It seems like most apps are not doing a dedicated button for it on android so that's why we're not either. It just happens automatically.

I checked with a friend and his works properly with gesture nav. The only difference between us is he has an S25, I have a Pixel 8 Pro, so it might just be a bug with Pixel's gestures. Thanks all.

Yep, this is broken on one UI 8.0 with gesture navigation. YouTube pip works fine, so it isn't a system issue. 

 

It worked fine with the old button, and forcing it into pop up mode through the task switcher works so it isn't a permissions thing.
