Cast & Crew details do not appear for nearly a minute

I have been working on this for months and I cannot find a solution.

I did a metadata refresh on my library.  After that whenever I click on one of the cast and crew it takes about a minute for the details to appear. Once I have done that the details appear immediately from then on.

Everything was fine until I refreshed the metadata!

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!

Before I copied the log I clicked on several cast and waited for the information to appear.  I also clicked a few that were previously clicked which worked as they should.

Thanks!

TO,

Grabbing Actor's info has some limits per minute per IP request setup by the data source.  This keeps the data source server from being swamped.  It's possible you will run into that if you have a lot of data and image requests at the same time.  I remember seeing one source limits to something like 10 requests per minute from any specfic IP address.  You are getting this data and images for free from the database site.  It's reasonable to expect them to limit the traffic.  I think that may be causing your delays.

The other possibility is interruption of Internet traffic for various reasons and then once download fails, when does Emby re-request the information?  I think, you have to click on the actor's empty poster box to start a new request, like you mentioned.  That works. This is also reasonable, because there is talent that have no pictures.  Why would Emby be tasked to keep checking?  There is an admin option to check for new metadata in the admin library controls to fix this combination where the first look up failed. You don't really want to make multiple attempts to be automatic.  That would cause the server to continuously request anything missing and bog down everything.  There is no way to tell which images are just not available.

Hi, what time did the problem occur? I don't see any obvious minute long response times here.

I clicked on several just before I copied out the log.  I did that from around 16:30 - 16:40.

I am certain there are no issues with my internet being interrupted.  There was no problem for years until I did the metadata refresh, so it seems unlikely that they are limiting my traffic.

Thanks!

After it happens on a particular title, if you go back into it again, does it happen again for the same content?

No, not at all!

Once I click a particular actor and wait for the detailed information to appear from then on if I click that same actor the details appear immediately.

@TankinOhioit's because when you click on the cast member, if they don't currently have a description then we try and fetch one on demand. That's why after that it's much faster.

Does that help?

That is kind of what I figured it might be doing.  The thing is it never did this before I refreshed the metadata.  Before that there was very little delay.

If Emby has always looked up the description when clicking on an actor why is it taking so much longer to find the description now?

Is there any way to get Emby to look up all the descriptions in the background, or to add the descriptions when a new title is added?

Thanks!

This has always been the case.

Currently no because your server database likely has tens of thousands of actors. We have been asked by the metadata websites not to hammer them with requests for this information. That's why it was changed a long time ago to be on demand.
