WCFJ78 1 Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 Backstory: I've been using Emby for over a year, serving it from Synology. The default recording folder is whatever the default is. I'm in the process of trying to eliminate this instance and migrating to a Emby server installed within Linux (Ubuntu server). On the new server I have set up the libraries. For the Recording library, I deleted the default location and replaced it with a SMB share. I verified that the credentials I provided for the share have full access. When a show attempts to record there are numerous failures listed in the dashboard that say nothing more useful than "recording (show name) has failed on (servername)." Is there a log somewhere that provides a more verbose error output?
Luke 42077 Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!
WCFJ78 1 Posted November 28, 2025 Author Posted November 28, 2025 (edited) I actually figured it out with a little help from ChatGPT. It appears that I cannot record directly to a programmed SMB share within Emby. I got what I was trying to do to work by mounting a folder within the OS filesystem to a SMB share (/mnt/embyrecordings -> \\server\recordings) by adding the mount point config to /etc/fstab.
