chuwz 11 Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 (edited) Hello, I'm using the latest version of Kodi 21.2 and the latest beta version of Emby For Kodi Next Gen 12.3.5. I successfully played an .iso file using the “Native (direct paths)” method in Emby For Kodi Next Gen. However, I noticed that the playback progress for .iso movies is not synced to the Emby server. Screenbits 2025-11-28_123102.mp4 As shown in the video, when I play an .iso movie, drag the progress bar to a point in the middle, and then stop the movie. Normally, the playback progress should have been synced to the Emby server. But when I open the web version of Emby and refresh, the playback progress is missing! And after restarting Kodi, the playback progress for the .iso movie even vanished entirely! I can confirm this is a bug in Emby for Kodi Next Gen. When Kodi plays .iso movies via SMB mounting, everything functions normally. However, when Kodi is paired with Emby for Kodi Next Gen, the progress disappears and fails to sync to the Emby server. Please update Emby for Kodi Next Gen and fix this bug. Thank you! Edited November 28, 2025 by chuwz Make the title description more precise 1
quickmic 1703 Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 I tested with DVD iso, and works fine. Must be an bluray issue. I'll check that too.

But you said the DVD ISO is working perfectly—are you sure about that? In my actual testing, the DVD ISO doesn't even display the playback progress! At least the Blu-ray ISO shows the playback progress, but the DVD ISO doesn't even display that... Hello, I am very sorry. indeed, this was my oversight. I retested it, and the DVD ISO still fails to synchronize progress, just like the Blu-ray ISO. So I don't understand why you say the DVD ISO is work fine—I tested it myself and got the same bug. Screenbits 2025-11-28_135138.mp4 Edited November 28, 2025 by chuwz
quickmic 1703 Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 Thanks, I can see the problem. I'll check it again.
quickmic 1703 Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 (edited) @Luke Seems not playable content by server e.g. ISO (no runtime available on server, actually no mediasources), the "Sessions/Playing" reported RunTimeTicks and PositionTicks are not respected by the server. {'QueueableMediaTypes': ['Audio', 'Video', 'Photo'], 'CanSeek': True, 'IsPaused': False, 'ItemId': 16914, 'MediasourceId': None, 'PlaySessionId': '3aa71a2c63f14124a79198a6cce8dc6f', 'PositionTicks': 301140000, 'RunTimeTicks': 88855600000, 'VolumeLevel': 100, 'PlaybackRate': 1.0, 'Shuffle': False, 'RepeatMode': 'RepeatNone', 'IsMuted': False, 'PlaylistIndex': 0, 'PlaylistLength': 1, 'NowPlayingQueue': [{'Id': 16914, 'PlaylistItemId': '0'}], 'EventName': 'TimeUpdate'} Edited November 28, 2025 by quickmic
Luke 42077 Posted November 28, 2025 Posted November 28, 2025 The server won’t always have that info about an iso

That it's expected behavior? But if playback progress isn't synced, that seems completely unacceptable. If playback progress can't be synchronized, it would be extremely inconvenient.
quickmic 1703 Posted November 29, 2025 Posted November 29, 2025 (edited) Quite sure this was synced in past versions. Actually, the progress should be part of mediasources or even better videofeed metadata, but there should be some "fallback" for this case. I know users are syncing all sorts of not playable content to Kodi. Only managing the metadata etc. on the server. I don't wanna rule out a bug in the plugin, but so far I didn't find any issue. I know users are syncing all sorts of not playable content to Kodi. Only managing the metadata etc. on the server. I don't wanna rule out a bug in the plugin, but so far I didn't find any issue. The frustrating thing about this BUG is that playback progress syncs perfectly for MP4 or MKV movies, but not for .ISO format movies. In other words, playback progress syncs successfully for some movies (.mp4 or .mkv, except for .iso) but fails for others (.iso)... It's a truly disjointed experience. I really hope you can fix this BUG, I can confirm this BUG exists in Kodi 21.2 paired with the latest version (beta) of Emby for Kodi Next Gen 12.3.5. And “Native (direct paths)” mode. You said Quote Quite sure this was synced in past versions So I tested the older version Kodi Next Gen 11.1.27, and the same issue occurred—the playback progress wasn't synced.
