Unraid/Emby issues not loading TV Shows from 1 disk

Hi,  I have raised this issue on the Unraid forums with no luck so hoping someone here may be able to help me.

I am running a media server with unraid and emby as the docker.  I have 6 disks, a parity and cache set up with all disks having movies and tv shows.  Recently I noticed TV shows weren't updating with new content on Disk 4.  Movies upload fine however TV shows fail and work when they are on any of the other drives.  The TV shows just stopped scanning from Disk 4 and updating my emby library.  I have tried all sorts of troubleshooting and have even replaced the drive still with no luck.  All my drives are now all close to full which I also can't understand as they weren't a couple of days ago and I definately have not uploaded over 4TB in files in that time.  The only way i am able to watch any tv shows I add is by moving the files to another drive through unraid.

If anyone can please help I would greatly appreciate it.

I have added the unraid diagnostics and emby log

Thank you

I would suggest the first action is stop having emby server try to write new files to the disks that are full

So stop dowing media conversions writing to the full disks

My suggestion would be to migrate to a new server with much more space - unless you can first address the "/config" disc and resolve that and then look into stopping adding more files to the "/mediax" discs until you re-organize

I'm a little confused with how you have setup Unraid and the overall health of that server.

Firstly, Unraid is designed to be able to pool individual disk drives together in an "array" and then expose that as one large pool of storage via User Shares. The end user shouldn't really have a concept of Disk 1, 2, 3 or 4 - but rather "shares" for "Movies" or "TV Series" etc.

Without completely understanding your setup, it looks like your Movies library correctly points to a "movies" share, but the TV Shows library looks like its pointing to individual disks maybe?

Library: Movies, id: 256287, CollectionType: movies, CollapseSingleItemFolders: False
	Configured paths: /media/Movies
Library Folder: Movies, id: 439878: path: /media/Movies
Library: TV shows, id: 613477, CollectionType: tvshows, CollapseSingleItemFolders: False
	Configured paths: /media2,/media3,/media4,/media5,/media6,/media7

Questions for you:

  1. What is Unraid reporting to you in terms of free space? It is reporting to Emby that almost every single share has no more space (/media2/3/4/7)
  2. How much space is left in your cache pool? This is presumably where the Emby Docker container is stored, also reporting as no more space
  3. Do you have any Conversion Jobs scheduled in Emby? As sa2000 pointed out, there are conversion jobs which are consistently failing due to lack of space. Check this in your Emby Server dashboard side menu 'Conversions' and delete them if possible.

This seems to me like an Unraid configuration / system issue that should best be tackled first over on their forum. Once you have your server configured correctly and disk space issues sorted, check back here if you still continue to have problems. They will definitely want to see your Diagnostics over there.

Good luck.

Hi,

Thanks for the help.  To answer your questions.....

Initially yes you are correct - I had unraid shares with the 2 being Tv Shows and Movies.  All was working fine until all TV Shows stopped loading at all and the only work around I could come up with is making seperate shares for each disk individually pointing to the TV shows on each disk.  This all works except for disk 4.

1 - Currently free space showing is attached

2 -540GB free

3 - I did have about 29 in conversions which I have cancelled.  (it is set up to convert all new material so was a massive backlog due to space)

I have raised all the issues on unraid forums who looked it over and could not find any issues affecting it and suggested it may be an emby issue and to raise it here.

This is really unhealthy, and definitely needs your attention. The first 3 disks have less than 1MB left.

Option 1: Install a new disk to expand your array
Option 2: Use the plugin Disk Space Management to move some Movies/TV to a disk with more free space (eg. Disk 4) - https://youtu.be/ZmOhCtG05NM
Option 3: Use the plugin Unbalance to achieve the same thing as above albeit with more manual control.

This should be fine, however as per above, your /config mount is reporting no disk space -- can you confirm you have not customized your metadata and transcoding locations to be on the array instead?

This is not ideal, and could become problematic. I suggest you address the disk space issue above, and then revisit this config again to simplify it and ensure Emby is just pointing at just one or two 'TV Shows' shares that have plenty of room to grow.

1 - I have now moved some files to disk 4 and freed up space on the first 3 drives (attached).

2 - I don't believe so however how will can I check and confirm?

3 - I can do this again however don't believe it will fix my TV Shows on disk 4 being picked up

Thanks for all the help - greatly appreciated

FYI I have removed the shares for tv shows on each drive and added a user share for the array folder.  It fails to scan any TV shows at all

Can you provide new logs from when you scanned the new share.

Did you perform a library to ensure your previous were cleanly removed from the database? Did you also properly map access to the share in your docker config? Provide an Emby Server log from when you added the new array share.

I won't have any time to look into it now, but hopefully someone else can chime in.

It does not look like you remove these from your tv library and it does not look like you added your new share to library.

I've now deleted all appdata and doing a clean reinstall of emby.  Currrently adding movies to the library with no issues.  Tv Shows not scanning at all

Guess we need new logs from you doing that.

for your TV Shows library that you have just created, are you creating folders with names pasted from text you copy from browser screen? There are some invalid characters in the folder name you created for "Kingswood Country (1980)" - there is a 0xEF 0xBF 0xBD between the "Country" and "(1980)"

All I have done is create a user share on emby to the mnt/user/TV_Shows.  I have then added the library to emby and that's all I've done.  I have checked the folder name on the drive however cannot see any issues there?  sorry if I haven't understood correctly?

I do see that however in the share.  I also see that there are 2 Kingswood country folders there but not on the actual disks....

select the text for the name of the "Kingswood Country (1980)" folder under "/mnt/user/TV_Shows" and copy to a text file, save and then view the text file using a hex file viewer - the non standard characters between "y" and "(" may not visible when you look at the folder name

Ok.  I did this and it only showed a space between them.  Do I delete the space?  How do I then fix it?
