So when I use the old emby for Android tv app. All files stream perfectly fine. But when I try to use the new Android app on my Android tv box, some files stutter. How come? Every setting is the same.

I tried the 3rd party client vidhub and it streams fine.

Hi.  What is the audio track on the ones that stutter?

Posted (edited)

Codec: Eac3

224kbps

But the audio doesn't stutter, more like the video is lagging.

Video codec is h264

14700kbps

I have both apps on my Fire TV and in one I get the stutter and in the other it plays fine. Doesn't seem to be format specific.

Is it the emby for Android tv that works without stutter?

As of yesterday I planned to check both apps and get their version info to post here today. Right now I have to wait cause my roommate is watching other things and I'm not going to interrupt him. I'll post the information as soon as I get a chance.

Yeah I'm seeing the same thing. The Emby for Android TV app works fine, the Android app has video that stutters with the audio playing normally.

Audio codec is AAC, 366 kbps. Emby running on Thompson 270 which is the same as the Onn boxes in the US.

Yes it's Emby for Android 3.5.17 without the stutter.

You should've actually given a negative answer there, not positive. 😊

Grim you're not funny and never were, and there is nothing wrong with the wording of my post. You guys get to make jokes when you stop bowing down to load Luke and actually fix items that need fixing regardless of of the amount of request for it. We all know certain items should never need above a certain amount of votes to get rectified.

I copied it direct as it is in the app. Nothing confusing about my post in the least. It clearly state yes to your question that it Emby For Android without the stutter.

I'm unsure where does that attitude come from or what did I do to offend you so, but to clarify:

Question was:

Your answer was:

Which is evidently odd (and should've stated No) as member who posted that question was confused as well:

You did state clearly which app, there's no confusion there. But the way in which you've replied was what I was referring to.

I have been complaining about this for awhile now.  AndroidTV app everything plays fine.  Standard android app has stutter on playback.

I find it insane emby devs have spent 8+ years on this android app and can't even get basic playback to work correctly. Meanwhile they want to push everyone away from AndroidTV that actually works correctly.

Who cares about extra features when basic playback doesn't work?

I'm confused now. OP states that the `normal' android version stutters, which is version 3.5.17. This is also the behaviour I am seeing with the same version.
The Android TV version 2.1.28g works without issues on content that doesn't work on the other app, which is what other people seem to confirm as well.
Happy to provide any logs that might help troubleshooting this.

No reason to be confused we are all on the same page.  AndroidTV app works correctly..  The standard android app does not.

This is correct. I want to use the new app. I like it's ui better. And every once in a while I get this message in the AndroidTV app like please use our new Android app instead. And i'm like I would if I could.

Again there is nothing wrong with my post other than maybe a coma after the yes. Grimm's post should have never been made or he should have simply pointed out I forgot the coma.

Now as for the apps the main way I tell them apart aside from checking inside the app itself (which I did) is the 3.5.17 when clicked starts with a gray screen for about 2 seconds then launches into Emby. The 2.1.28 when clicked immediately starts with the spinning green wheel of Emby's then launches into the app. The app row on the Fire TV list the most recently used starting with the last used. 3.5.17 is before 2.1.28 in that row. 3.5.17 is the one that does not stutter. I've tested with 3 different movies my roommate tried to watch on the 2.1.28 and had to switch to 3.5.17.

Are you going to fix the android app?  How hard is it to get basic video playback to work correctly?

@dcemby88

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

I've attached 2 zip files, one that reproduces the stuttering, one that doesn't. For the one that doesn't, it looks like the app is transcoding the content which doesn't seem to happen for the problematic one. Logs were taken after a restart of Emby.

I would of thought the opposite. Transcoding on the problem child (eating too many resources), and no transcoding on the one behaving. Now if certain ones are done punishing others when they were and are the ones in the wrong maybe we can get to the bottom of this.
