WDPR4100 12 Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 Hi everyone, I’m looking at the QNAP TVS-h1688X as a dedicated server for Emby (streaming, transcoding, large media library, multiple users). Could Emby specialists or advanced users share their opinions on the TVS-h1688X? Specifically, I’d like to know: Is this model “perfect” (or very well-suited) for Emby, especially for transcoding performance, stability, and overall media server usage? How well does the Intel Xeon W-1250 + Intel UHD P630 iGPU work for hardware transcoding in Emby? Are there any drawbacks or things to watch out for (noise, power usage, SSD cache behavior under ZFS/QuTS hero, maintenance, etc.)? If you are using this NAS with Emby, could you share your real-world experience (multiple streams, 4K HDR, remote access, etc.)? Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Luke 42077 Posted November 25, 2025 Posted November 25, 2025 HI, that's a 2020 model, right? So it's a little older now but still looks pretty capable.
WDPR4100 12 Posted November 26, 2025 Author Posted November 26, 2025 Indeed, there is also the new TVS-ALH-1688ATX model equipped with an Intel Core i7 or i9, boosted with AI capabilities 1
