Server container restart vs. Docker restart

Hi. Haven't posted here in a long time... good to be back. 🙂

My question today is about Emby Server running in a Docker container. Since the server has its own options to shut down or restart it, how is it affected by a shut down or restart of the container from Docker instead?

Is this generally safe to do, or is there a chance of problems if the server isn't shut down through its own dashboard first before bringing the container down?

Occasionally, the container may be updated or Docker itself may receive an update on the host level. I'm hoping I don't have to worry about manually shutting down the server each time before performing such an update.

Thanks!

Shutting down a docker container is similar to shutting down a host system; when the shutdown command is received, all the running applications are told to shutdown gracefully then the system/container waits for that to actually happen before shutting itself down.

You don't have to worry about stopping the server app before shutting down the container.
