Playback hangs with Android player but Android TV player is able to play it

I've been experiencing a problem intermittently recently. During playback of a recorded show (tonight it was NCIS Sydney) the playback will just freeze. I can exit the recording and resume it, but it doesn't help. However, if I exit the Android player and open the Android TV player, I can resume and it plays just fine. I suspect it is related to the fact that the Android app has to "transcode" the .ts file while the Android TV is able to direct-play them.

Hi, it should be able to direct play ts files.

i would check the playback settings in the app. Maybe you forced transcoding on mpegts.

Yes, but it cannot direct play AND seek in-progress recordings. I set it to force transcoding based on your recommendation. From an older thread, discussing being  able to rewind/ffwd a live recording while it is still active. I was trying to start watching football recordings after they were recording but before it is completed. Forcing the transcode was your suggestion to make it appear to work more like the Android TV app, allowing seeking during an active recording.

Will the Android app ever be able to direct-play the .ts AND be able to seek?

I would try reverting that option now because there is a new option called prefer direct streaming for live tv. This way you can disable the live tv direct stream but still direct play the ts file.

ok, so if I unselect force transcoding, and select "prefer direct streaming of Live TV", then I can play an active recording from the live tv guide, or the Recordings tab. From the guide, it asks if I want to start at the beginning or the live position, whereas from the Recordings tab it just starts at the beginning. But in that mode, regardless of where I start the playback, the only seek-related feature that works is to pause. No rewind, no FFwd.

Am I just missing something?

Hi, for maximum seeking you would uncheck this:

prefer direct streaming of Live TV

Currently it does not apply to active recordings but we can have it do that.
