Adam Pessach 2 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 Hey, I recently stumbled upon a problem in the quality of 4K files in both TV shows and movies. The Emby server uses transcoding on the video stream, although they're HEVC files, which in the past worked in direct play. I ruled out the possibility of a TV software issue, as it only happens in 4K, and 1080p HEVC files can direct play. I'm attaching the log file of a 4K movie for examination purposes. Hopefully you can solve this issue, as it affects the quality of movies and TV series heavily and, of course, the entire experience of the app. Thank you.ffmpeg-transcode-211ae8db-4af7-4b2f-813b-270d34840577_1.txt
GrimReaper 4739 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 (edited) Your TV doesn't report 4K support: Quote &MaxWidth=1920 hence transcoding occurs: Quote &TranscodeReasons=VideoResolutionNotSupported Edit: LG Smart TV 43UR80006LJ As it apparently should @SamES Edited November 19, 2025 by GrimReaper Append
Solution Luke 42077 Posted November 19, 2025 Solution Posted November 19, 2025 hi, how have you configured the quality setting in the app? 1
Adam Pessach 2 Posted November 19, 2025 Author Posted November 19, 2025 I just changed it and it works fine. It probably changed in the recent update. Thanks for the help! 1

Ahhh, just checked that in one test session to compare, I thought that was device capability while it's actually set quality. That actually makes sense, will be useful for troubleshooting (though would've appreciated a heads-up). Thanks. Edit: On the other hand, that should've really be better denoted in the log, as basically restriction due to quality setting shouldn't be presented as video resolution not supported.
