mtrow28 2 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 I update the basic music metadata with mp3tag. Emby scans and finds the files, but doesn't update with images or any other info. I checked server logs and it seems the connection to https://musicbrainz.emby.tv is timing out. trying to navigate there on a web browser gives "502 Bad Gateway". I found older forum posts on this issue, and the solution was a restart of the Emby MusicBrainz server, so not sure if that needs to happen again, or if there is some other issue. I've attached the log for review. logfile.txt
Luke 42077 Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 HI, apologies for the disruption. We are rebooting our musicbrainz server. It should be back up shortly.

mtrow28 2 Posted November 21, 2025 Author Posted November 21, 2025 Site seems to be up now, no errors in the log, however, metadata is not updating. mtrow28 2 Posted November 21, 2025 Author Posted November 21, 2025 As a follow up, it appears that Artist metadata has been able to update at some point, but song metadata is not updating at all.

What do you mean? Musicbrainz is not used for song level metadata. That comes from information embedded within the audio file.
mtrow28 2 Posted November 21, 2025 Author Posted November 21, 2025 Interesting. I may have misunderstood what detail level Emby provides, so I took a closer look at the song level. I've added over 100 songs to my library over the past two weeks. The metadata of the vast majority just have the info I added in the ID3 tag. There are a dozen or so that pulled in an image when added to Emby, and from that I assumed Emby was pulling in song level data. But on closer inspection, it looks like the only thing pulled in to those was an image, no other metadata. So then I looked for a common thread for those that pulled a image, but there wasn't one. Half of those dozen songs I had added an album to title to, the other half had no album data, in fact, no data other than the Song Title, Artist, and Album Artist, which is my basic ID3 tag setup. So I'm not sure why that happened, and no other of the 80+ songs pulled any images. Anyway, at this point it's a relatively minor thing........music plays, Emby works, the visual stuff is just a bonus.
mtrow28 2 Posted November 22, 2025 Author Posted November 22, 2025 Since at the song level, in the options list there is the option to "refresh metadata", I assume that meant it would pull in more info besides what I added through the ID3 tag (album, track #, year, etc. similar to what Picard does). You are saying that is not the case, so that was my misunderstanding. I believed that because certain songs had images come in at some point, I assumed that was Emby updating the song based on it's detection.
Luke 42077 Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 Quote I assume that meant it would pull in more info No, for any content that you perform this on, it will repeat the same fetching that occurred the first time it was imported. The fetchers that you see listed and enabled in your library options, those are what will be used.
