dadofhgnadn 12 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 What would be the process to transfer Emby to a replacement computer without changing the server name and logins for users both locally and using connect? Last time, I was left with two instances of the same server name (SRV and SRV) and renamed Emby on the new machine a new name. Is there a way to remove the old instance on the Server side without confusing my parents using a client?
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 After copying the Emby installation to the new machine (and before starting Emby) turn off the old machine, or change its name and IP address if you're keeping it connected, and then give the new machine the former name and IP of the old one. Then start Emby. If you do it right, nothing will notice the difference (I did exactly this myself only last week or so). Paul 1

tedfroop21 86 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 +1 for backup and restore..... I would also set a DHCP RESERVATION on your router and point your new PC to the same IP address the old one uses. (Most modern routers will not give it the same address unless you do this.) That way it uses the same IP address as the previous PC and your old machine will get a different IP. Since remote clients usually point to an IP address, with the restore your server should "just work" that way. 1
