But you ought to be able to use features that are not dependent on an Emby Premiere subscription when running in offline mode - of course not the Downloads feature which is for offline working with Emby Premiere - but with the server being on the same device, it ought to be possible to stream server media. Was there anything in the server log and android app log for the time when you tried http://127.0.0.1 and port 8096 with wifi enabled but not connected? You would have needed to enable debug logging for both the emby server and emby for android app beforehand I will try and setup some tests with 4.8.11.0 and 4.9.1.90 Edited December 2, 2025 by sa2000
ebr 16168 Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 If the issue is still that "localhost" doesn't bring up your server page then this, again, is nothing to do with the server. It is related to network routing on the device. If the request is never getting to the server, no change in version will have any effect.
sa2000 673 Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 (edited) @ebr@Piperel I have completed my tests between Emby Server 4.8.11.0 and 4.9.2.7 on Android The issue is that we are now crashing when there is no network. So localhost is not working because Emby Server is no longer running as it only lasts for a few seconds after launch when offline. This has now been referred to the development team Edited December 3, 2025 by sa2000 1
sa2000 673 Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 (edited) @PiperelCan you please confirm if your issue is the same as what I had in my tests. When offline and you launch Emby Server, does it stay up or exit and selecting it shows "Emby Server is starting..." everytime Edited December 3, 2025 by sa2000

So it is not localhost that is no longer working .. but there is not an Emby Server process running to accept the requests when there is no network. An issue that appears to have come in version 4.9.xx of the android Emby Server. Linking to other forum topic for this: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/144618-emby-server-stops-after-few-seconds-on-android-when-there-is-no-internet/ The issue has been referred to the development team
Piperel 4 Posted December 6, 2025 Author Posted December 6, 2025 Thank you for looking into this, I really appreciative. 2
HjanecksD03 2 Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 I’ve run into this before — usually it’s just the Emby server not actually binding to localhost. A quick restart of the Emby service normally fixes it, but it’s also worth checking that nothing else is already using that port. If you’re on Windows, opening Emby via the tray icon instead of the browser sometimes “wakes” it up too. Simple stuff, but it’s saved me a few headaches.

This specific issue is because of the emby server crashing within few seconds of launch on Android if there is no network. So it is not an issue of binding to localhost. I will amend the title now that we know what the issue is Edited December 8, 2025 by sa2000
