RLanger7228 73 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 I imported an album that WAS "identified" correctly by EMBY. However, when displayed, only 3 of the songs show up (screenshot 1) despite all the songs being present in the same folder (screenshot 2). I tried "Scan Library Files", both within the album & for the entire music library, but it still only displays the same 3 songs. Why might only 3 of the 14 songs be recognized & displayed by Emby?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 (edited) That would suggest possibly the embedded metadata made it multiple albums. What do you see when you click the green text link (should be Artist)? Server log from when imported may help. Edited November 18, 2025 by Happy2Play
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 And depending on the embedded metadata and options enabled on library the version could be wrong also with 10 release versions. Release group “Fiddler on the Roof” by Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick - MusicBrainz
Luke 42077 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Right the others probably got added to a different album. what do you see in folder view?
RLanger7228 73 Posted November 18, 2025 Author Posted November 18, 2025 Excellent observation! I first did a search for the album title to discover which folder they were in (screenshot 1). Search found the 3 listed songs & the album, but did not find any of the other songs. I then edited the metadata of one to find where the folder was located. When I navigated there in folder view, I saw all 14 songs in the same folder, but some had the album cover while most did not. Also, the information below each song was often different - supporting @Happy2Play's supposition that they were imported into different albums (screenshot 2). While in folder mode, I edited the metadata of a song WITH an album cover to copy the album title exactly. I then edited the metadata of 2 songs with no album cover to paste the album title. After Scanning the files & even refreshing the metadata for the folder, the 2 songs I edited did not appear with the others in the album view. I realized that music data is sorted by artist higher than album, so I went back to the folder view to repeat the process in the same 2 songs with the artist name. As I was editing, I noticed that the album title field was blank (again), despite my having pasted it in. I re-pasted the album title, but saving it & re-opening it showed the album title field was still blank! Two more times!! I find it odd that the album title field should remain blank after pasting data into it, repeatedly. It almost feels like it is actively resisting my attempts to correct the problem. The album WAS imported into a compilations folder, but editing the metadata should address the issue, yet it won't save or the data keeps disappears after saving. I was able to change the artist field just fine. Another observation that supports @Happy2Playis that 2 other albums I imported also broke up into separate songs (screenshot 3), but these albums DID contain songs by or with different artists (Cole Porter with various different artists, in this example & a radio station album with all different artists, not seen in the SS). However, ALL the songs from both those albums appeared separately in the Album view, sorted by "most recently added", whereas the missing songs from FOTR didn't appear at all, either there or in a global search. When computers start doing apparently irrational things, re-boot (start over from scratch) is often the best approach. Assuming a "corrupted" importation, I will delete the Emby folder with this album, rescan the files to ensure it is removed, then try to remove the "compilation" notation from the original source, and re-import it into Emby as an album with a single artist to see how that goes, when I get a chance. I will let you know how it works. in the meantime, can you tell me why I was able to edit the artist name, but not the album title?
RLanger7228 73 Posted November 19, 2025 Author Posted November 19, 2025 OK. I moved the album folder to a non-music shared folder on my NAS (to have a copy just in case). I went into iTunes on my MAC, where the original music is stored. I selected all the songs in the album & edited the INFO, so they would all be the same. I de-selected COMPILATION OF DIFFERENT ARTISTS, I made the artist Zero Mostel & saved it. The folder was moved from under compilations into artists, Zero Mostel. When it uploaded to Emby, it now appears as a single album when sorted by recently added. It did not "identify" the album, but all 14 songs appear under it & I was easily able to edit the images to include the album cover with a quick google search & "copy image address" (screenshot). I still don't understand the weird behavior before, but the problem is now resolved.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 Compilations/Various Artist albums can take a little extra work. Music Naming | Emby Documentation

With the album title copied into the clipboard, I pasted the same value into both the album title and artist name metadata fields, then saved. When I edited the metadata again, the album title field was blank, so I pasted it again & saved. Just to check, I edited the metadata again, and the album title field was blank, even though the artist field retained the pasted data. That is the behavior I am calling weird. Even if you mean that the album title needs to be the same across all the tracks in the folder, the ones that were recognized HAD a title, but the ones not recognized did not. Theoretically, EMBY should have let me edit the album title, recognized it as part of the album & then listed it with the other recognized songs.

Music Naming | Emby Documentation That certainly seems to be the case. The link you provided does not specifically mention how to address compilations, though the ALBUM>SONGs is probably best, and the way I usually organize them within my folders. I use a "Compilations" folder to contain all those albums, so in a way Compilations is the "artist", which would normally contain all the artist's album folders. Then you’ll be fine with the folder structure option set to album/song
