Add now playing video background to Apple TV app

It appears that all the apps except the Apple TV have this feature. I know that it’s possible because other apps like channels DVR can do it. It would be great if the Apple TV had this option as well.

Hi, can you please describe what exactly you mean? Thanks.

Now playing background where you can return to the main menu while the video continues to play in the background. It seems all the apps can do it but the Apple TV.

Hi, what main menu exactly?

Are you referring to PiP?  Where video continues as you navigate to the device home?  Does Apple TV allow that?

Yes, PiP. My ancient 2016 Samsung also has this ability. It is in playback setting (Video player back button behavior) with options continue playing or stop.

Even Apple’s apps don’t do that on Apple TV.

Netflix, Amazon Video, and similar apps do not support this on any platform as far as I know. The Apple TV Music app does support background playback. Infuse and Channels DVR support it as well, with Channels offering the best.

Ok then. Looks awkward but interesting I guess.

I like it. The box automatically shifts based on what I highlight, so it’s never in the way. Pressing the Home button gives the option to open in full screen or close it. I’m also sure the Apple TV can support the same background playback as the other apps. Just a thought—maybe in the future you can take a look.

It is definitely something to consider, especially if it starts to become more popular and talked about more.
