How to Customize Default View

I don't know if my problem belongs here, because it is not about folder-view, which i have never used before, but about the normal poster view.
I have mixed libraries for Documentaries for example.
They have the folder Documentary-Movies and Documentary-Series.
In 4.8 and before that when you clicked on the library on the front page you entered the fully normal poster-view and there were the items of both sub-folders listed.
Movies and shows side by side.
Now after update to 4.9 when i click on my Media-Library-Icons i get into the folder-view, which i do not want.
I saw that one can change this in user settings but only to one specific type, not to a mixed poster-view.
So now there is another click needed on the top menu to switch between series and movies and also i am afraid nobody is going to find it until i show everyone.
Is there a way to bring the old well-known mixed poster-view back somehow?
If not i will have to seperate those libraries again which would be a pitty because they have very few items each.
For me the idea of this "Mixed Library"-option for the Startpage was to reduce clicks when looking content up.
But now there is basically no benefit.

In all libraries, you can choose the view it opens with along with the info tags you want displayed by finding the ... icon.

It actually is about folder view, there was never any other way to have movies and TV shows displayed side by side(there is talk now that such view, Movies & TV Shows tab, might be implemented, but it currently ain't as of yet), there were ever been only Movies, Shows & Folder tabs, with folder view being (and still is) default landing page for Mixed content-type libraries; what changed (and what subset of users is having problem with) is the presentation (and underlying logic to some extent) of folders/subfolders/items within.

Not currently, that is what this (and few other topics) are about. Options you have at the moment to get close to previous iteration according your description:

1) Enable/toggle library option to merge top-level folders in folder view

2) Enable/toggle "Auto-open single item folders" in your user Display preferences, so selecting a movie folder will take you to movie details page directly

That should give you approximation of a view you've had previously.

This might have been the way it was made in the backend, ok, but it never presented itself as "folderview".
I would have seen this on occasion after all these years using emby.
I don't have the old version anymore to make any screenshots unfortunately but i remember very well when in 4.8 and before going to folder view icons changed into squares. There was no poster-view there. I know that there was the ability to change through submenu how this was presented but i remember very well that i never changed anything there and always went with the "defaults". And the defaults seem to have been, when i started with emby and configured everything, that mixed libraries presented a "poster-view".
I might have "misused" this feature, ok.
Maybe it was always made with some folderview in mind, ok, i understand, but i never have seen this and it never bothered me. Until now.
I, and all my users, try their best not to go anywhere in those submenus and change something. Because it is way too complicated and this here again shows.
Once i had my mother change looking for movies of a certain year and she was set with this for a whole month until i saw it.
She basically saw in her list only movies from one specific year and thought there is no other content available anymore.
I might be too stupid for emby and all its customizations.
I just want a Netflix-like experience for me and my family, that's it.

Well, not knowing how to convince you otherwise, here's exactly same Documentary library in 4.8 server Folders view (which was and still is the only way to see Movies and TV Shows side-by-side) screenshots:

My library with polish movies behaves still exactly as before, also in 4.9. See the images.
It's square images by default in folder view.
Settings are "Primary" and "Standard".
My normal movie library presents itself as you have shown above in 4.9.
With the same settings: "Primary" and "Standard".
It's not even consistent over non-mixed-libraries now.
I have no explanation for this behaviour other than it has something to do when i setup the libraries and what defaults were going back then.

That's the 4.9 presentation now, yes as Movie folders have been "decoupled" from items within, there's an additional layer present now as you have actual folders instead of underlying items (folders being collapsed).

As a test, if you assign an image to root folder there (place poster.jpg file at the same level as your movie folders are) and scan library, how does it behave?

Another question is why not use the Movies tab?
