Metadata Not Storing in Each Media Folder

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have been running Emby for a couple of years and cannot find a way to get the JPEGs, NFOs, etc to be downloaded and stored in each folder, along with the MKV.

I have searched the forums and followed the guides to "Save artwork into media folders" but it always stores it in the emby system folder instead.  I would really like to move what I have (a lot of it custom) and have all new metadata storing in the folders because it simplifies my backup strategy.

I just upgraded to 4.9.1.90, hoping that would resolve the issue, but no joy.

Any help is appreciated.

Would need to see a server log to tell if Emby is having write access issues to your media folders.

FYI...I just did a spot check and it looks like some of the files are actually in the folder, others are not. (I have been playing with folder permissions).  On the chance that I have them sorted (I assume you can tell from the logs), how can I migrate all of the stuff from the emby folder out to the directories, without losing everything custom?

Thanks again.

Hi, the server doesn't have a way to migrate from old settings to new settings.

The closest thing you can do is open up the metadata editor and just click save without doing anything else. This will get the nfo file saved, if you have nfo saving enabled. It won't move images though.

Hi Luke, I apologize, but I'm not following you.  What do you mean by open the metadata edit and click save?  Like open it for every object individually in my library and it will save each one to the directory where the media is stored?

Hi, yes it means use the 3-dot context menu to open the metadata editor and just click save without editing anything. This would have to be done on a per-title basis and is not ideal for an entire library. I was just mentioning it as an option to test if you wish.

I believe you have to do a refresh metadata and replace all the existing images to force everything old to go into your folder. Just note this will take a while to do if you have a large library...

There is no migrate process to move existing /metadata/library/x/xx images to with media.

As mentioned above all you can do is Refresh w/replace images to get new to new location with media.

Not my place to say, but something is cooking by a community member there, give it a few days...

I just wanted to stop you before losing your custom edits as a solution might be not too far off.

No worries. Thank you for the heads up.  I'll keep. My eyes open.

This is also not a direct process to move but rather to redownload, so you may end up with some different metadata and/or images from before.

@GrimReaperis right, there is something brewing. Right now it's just the water and tea, still needs the teabag for the tea, warning the water and mixing them together.. Maybe a drop of milk to improve it a little. ;)
Basically i have the scripts more or less ready, need them to actually be controllable with a settings page, have them work correctly with Emby and tested.

So soon(ish).
