bregn 1 Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 Emby was working fine last night, 4.9.1.80. Looking at logs and activity looks like it tried to update to 4.9.1.90 about 20 times. Today I am unable to play any videos on the server, they freeze within 2 seconds and if you skip forward they do not play. This issue is the same even if you try to watch through emby on the server, video files play back fine if you don't go through emby. I tried to reinstall 4.9.1.90, and nothing changed. Any troubleshooting attempts other than fresh install? I have now enabled backup in case this happens again in the future I at least won't have to do a full reinstall.

I had a similar occurrence on my server but I had already scheduled a full reboot for my server and I simply did that a couple of hours early. I had already tried just restarting the server and that made no difference. Some times the little code snippet that exists in all programing languages and all operating systems just happens. That snippet reads, with minor changes, "On random do something unexpected." And that could be the case here. Restarting the server fixes many things but, sometimes, you just have to go nuclear to fix these little "simple" problems and powering the server off and on is pretty nuclear.
Luke 42077 Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 @bregn Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
bregn 1 Posted November 13, 2025 Author Posted November 13, 2025 There are a bunch of hardware detection logs as well. I only just now noticed the issue is not there for mobile phone/tablet. I only have this issue with windows watching emby through local network. Quick look at logs I think only hardware detection is having errors. embyserver.txthardware_detection-63898568178.txt
bregn 1 Posted November 13, 2025 Author Posted November 13, 2025 Gilgamesh I did try rebooting both emby server and the machine multiple times. I am hoping I don't have to go full nuclear reinstall fresh and figure out all the config settings again.
Luke 42077 Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Have you tried rebooting both your server machine and your router?
bregn 1 Posted November 13, 2025 Author Posted November 13, 2025 (edited) Yes I tried restarting emby, restarting server, restarting modem, and restarting router. I don't have issues with mobile devices on the same network only windows machines. Even the windows server itself can't play the videos without stopping after 2 seconds. Solution Luke 42077 Posted November 13, 2025 Solution Posted November 13, 2025 Hi, can you try chrome and see how that compares?
bregn 1 Posted November 13, 2025 Author Posted November 13, 2025 I'm so dumb. Thank you very much it was a browser issue. I don't know why the videos played for a short few seconds. 1
