bonemouth 1 Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 When streaming from my Windows PC (i5-13400F with RTX 3070), I have to reduce the quality of anime with .ass (and sometimes other types of) subtitles to 720p or lower (from a native 1080p) to stream to my LG C4 TV using the Emby app. Would purchasing Premier fix this issue? I suspect transcoding using my graphics card may do it, but can someone confirm?
GrimReaper 4739 Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 You have an "F" type CPU, meaning no integrated graphics (meaning no QuickSync, too bad as QS is transcoding king) so Premiere subscription would enable Hardware accelerated transcoding using your RTX GPU. However, that might or might not necessarily solve your issue as C4 is generally capable device (that is known to have some issues with ass subs, as many other devices), and playback depends on many more factors than subtitles alone, I would first provide specific example(s) to confirm that subtitles are the actual issue and go from there. how to report a media playback issue You can also always subscribe to Premiere for a month and test it in various scenarios to see what kind of results and what kind of improvements - if any - you'd get.
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 While premier dose open up some things and among them is using the graphics CPU to transcode, I kind of doubt it will make a difference if you have premier on not. But to test you could get premier under the monthly plan and, if it does not work, cancel after testing, you can cancel. The cost per month is tiny and it will give you the answer you need. Just keep in mind that the monthly charge is recurring so, if you decide it will not work, be sure to cancel before you get to the one month anniversary. You can, if you like the premier experience you can, if you want, switch from monthly to lifetime (or yearly I think) at any time and, unless things have changed, the time remaining from the subscription will prorate the actual payment of the upgrade. I subbed lifetime many years ago and I believe that was one of the best purchases I have ever made. Of course I did not believe that other perks of lifetime would make any difference for me but I have subsequently replaced my cable TV with Emby's live TV functionality and life TV is one of the things premier opens up. Some people buy lifetime mainly to support Emby but that was not my intension but I would if my income was just a little higher. So, bottom line, I think that you should purchase a monthly sub and then test to see if premier is really needed for your use and then proceed in whatever direction you want.
bonemouth 1 Posted November 11, 2025 Author Posted November 11, 2025 Thank you both! I'll subscribe for a month and try it out. 1
