JJKOM 1 Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 (edited) I have been using Emby over a year now on my Terramaster NAS with TOS (5.1.67-00214) I had 4.8.0.62 beta and everything was working fine on my Samsung 55" OLED. First problem came with Samsung 75" QLED - no subtitles displayed, while same file displayed subtitles on 55" OLED Then I tried on LG 43" - it wanted to update Emby client - no subtitles. Then I made a mistake and updated Emby Server on my NAS. First with 4.9.1 from website: Playback Error No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details. This comes with all my TVs AND on browser, even on Terramasters own Home-page. Then I tried beta 4.9.2 Same thing. Now I can't play any files. Not even on Samsung phone. Same files have been working just fine before. So there is NO change on files or hardware, only change is Emby server on TOS5 Is there old version to be re-installed? embyserver.txt Edited November 6, 2025 by JJKOM
Luke 42077 Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

Luke 42077 Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 Hi, looks like authentication is failing for each of your network shares. You need to go into Emby library setup, click on each library, them click on each folder in the library and configure the credentials for it.
JJKOM 1 Posted November 6, 2025 Author Posted November 6, 2025 ok - so just installing on top of old is not good, I'll try that
JJKOM 1 Posted November 6, 2025 Author Posted November 6, 2025 (edited) I changed permissions on folder that has just movies in it and tried. Same error. embyserver-63898050601.txt embyserver.txt Edited November 6, 2025 by JJKOM added log before updates
JJKOM 1 Posted November 6, 2025 Author Posted November 6, 2025 From Emby mainscreen - Library - folder "Action" There was nothing on user or password, and it did not accept anything else than TOS main username and password.
Luke 42077 Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 Is the media on the nas or another device on the network?
JJKOM 1 Posted November 6, 2025 Author Posted November 6, 2025 it is on NAS - no change on hardware and it has been working
Luke 42077 Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 Then why did you setup your libraries with network paths rather than the direct file paths? Besides this issue you will get much better performance using the direct file paths.
JJKOM 1 Posted November 6, 2025 Author Posted November 6, 2025 When I was first setting it there was no other option. So I should change all those now? But is that something that has changed on this new version?
JJKOM 1 Posted November 6, 2025 Author Posted November 6, 2025 Thanks, seems that changing those paths is giving access back so videos are playing. But still no subtitles on my LG TV I will finish tomorrow setting all new paths and permissions and then test with other devices.
Luke 42077 Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 the ability to use the path has always been there. Actually we had that before smb. I don’t know why you’re getting authentication errors. I understand that you’re associating it with the update but I think it’s a matter of making sure the credentials are configured on each folder.

Has the initial library scan finished?
JJKOM 1 Posted November 7, 2025 Author Posted November 7, 2025 Now I can play videos again. Testing subtitles which was original problem; Subtitles are SRT embedded to mkv. Testing on same movie: Samsung S22+ - subtitles play ok Samsung Smart TV (TQ55S94CATXXC) Emby for Samsung 2.2.5 - subtitles play ok Samsung Smart TV (QE75Q70AATXXC) Emby for Samsung 2.1.0 - no subtitles LG Smart TV (43UM7100PLB) Emby for LG 1.0.47 - no subtitles All TVs have latest Emby available through their own store. I have never been able to use any other subtitles than SRT so I only use SRT that is embedded in mkv.

JJKOM 1 Posted November 7, 2025 Author Posted November 7, 2025 There is no debug option on LG Emby app - or at least I could not find it. Here is server log, just tried to play and no subtitles. Same log has previous sessions where I tried all TV:s and phone. embyserver (3).txt

First: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/Volume2/Store/Karaoke/SunFly/SFVCD 024' is denied. Looks like there's a permissions problem where the server is being denied access to your folders.

You need to click on the library in Emby library setup, then click on the folder, and then configure the username and password for the network share. Is that share on another device on the network? Because if it's the same machine as the server then you can save yourself a lot of trouble by setting up the library with the local file path instead. It will also perform better.

Looks like there's a permissions problem where the server is being denied access to your folders. That one is denied as that folder has VCD images. I removed that whole share as it is not really used with Emby. JJKOM 1 Posted November 13, 2025 Author Posted November 13, 2025 I don't find that setting you refer to, there is these two "Playback" items in settings:

JJKOM 1 Posted November 15, 2025 Author Posted November 15, 2025 After changing those Media Playback all on - no change. Still no subtitles on LG Emby. Testing on Samsung 75" with Emby 2.1.0 today. And I only use SRT subtitles that are embedded in MKV as that is only format that they work. I have several files with different subtitles, some of them show on Emby as options on subtitles but selecting them produces nothing.
