oceanclub 12 Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 I had my metadata path stored at: E:\Media\EmbyMetadata In that folder, I can see the metadata for some of my collections, including the nfo (with description), fanart.png, poster.png, and so on. I ran into a corruption problem with my library.db, so renamed it and have started to recreate my libraries. I notice that my movies are still in the relevant collection. However, some of the collections don't have any metadata or images associated with them. I'm not sure why some do and some don't. I had expected them to be loaded from E:\Media\EmbyMetadata but they're not. I can see places where I have a full-populated collection (an nfo with a description, fanart.png, poster.png, etc), but when i view the collection in Emby, I only see the collection name and the movies associated with it. Should my collections be restored from E:\Media\EmbyMetadata?
Luke 42077 Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Quote Should my collections be restored from E:\Media\EmbyMetadata? Hi, no, collections come from movie metadata in the same way that genres do. So for example a list of genres, list of collections on a movie. The only thing that might get reused from that folder would be an image.
oceanclub 12 Posted November 5, 2025 Author Posted November 5, 2025 OK, but unlike movie metadata, aren't collections generally created by users? I don't think I ever had any collection to start off with in my instance: I created them all myself. So to get them back, I now have to recreate them all manually it seems.

Yes, and they get added to the list and saved to your movie nfo file. Do you have nfo files in your media folders?
oceanclub 12 Posted November 5, 2025 Author Posted November 5, 2025 OK, to narrow it down on one instance to make it easier to understand. For an "Iranian Cinema" collection, there are two folders I can see: AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections\Iranian Cinema [boxset] collection.xml This contains a reference to only three movies, yet I had many more in the collection. It shows a last modified date of 2020. It doesn't contain the description of the collection. fanart.png poster.png E:\Media\EmbyMetadata\collections\Iranian Cinema collection.nfo This shows details about related studios and genres, but not the movies in the collection. It shows a last modified date of April 2024. As above, it doesn't contain the description of the collection. When i go into my server now after recreated my libraries and scanning my movies, I can see the following: So I have some questions: * Where is the description of the collection stored? I don't see it in either collection.xml or collection.nfo (it's not automated, I added that myself) * Should the collection be using the images from AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections\Iranian Cinema [boxset]? * collection.xml only contains three movies in a <CollectionItems> tags, but as you can see there are many more than that. Where is the collection > movie mapping coming from?
Luke 42077 Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 Hi, the xml file is obsolete and no longer used. a collection nfo file will be created in the server metadata folder.
