Refreshing library so that new items show up on latest media

Hello everyone.  I currently have a set up where I move file into my library and it take a while for the server to detect new items and put them into the latest media area.  I have scripts moving stuff around using rclone and filebot.  I think I can get stuff refreshed but just have some questions that maybe the community can help me pick the best option for this.

1.  I see under the Library section under advanced, I can pick the date added behavior for new content.  Is this responsible for stuff ending up in the latest media section?  If so should I pick Use file creation date or use date scanned into library?

2.  I have Enable real time monitoring set to true (toggled on).  Is there another setting that I need to pair with this to get it to work better?

3.  In my scripts, I have the following

curl -sS -X POST "$EMBY_URL/emby/Library/Refresh?api_key=$EMBY_API_KEY"

But I was thinking of changing it to

# Option 1: More thorough library refresh with parameters
curl -sS -X POST "$EMBY_URL/emby/Library/Refresh?Recursive=true&api_key=$EMBY_API_KEY"

# Option 2: Use the media update endpoint (often more reliable for "Latest")
curl -sS -X POST "$EMBY_URL/emby/Library/Media/Updated?api_key=$EMBY_API_KEY"

Would these (one or both) do the trick?

Thanks for any help

HI, yes it is.

That's your preference. The benefit of using the date created timestamp is it's permanent, so if you ever uninstall reinstall, the new installation will get the same values.

But then again, the benefit of using date scanned into the library is so that you don't have to worry about file system timestamps. It really is your choice based on what will work best for you.

Thanks so much.  Any advice on how to get it to update faster?

What do you mean exactly? Refreshing metadata isn't going to change the date added value as the content has already been imported into your server database.

When I add something to my library, it won't show up in the latest media for about 12-48 hrs.  I don't use sonarr to move stuff over.  I use filebot to rename and move.  I run this to refresh the media in hopes that it would pick up the new files.  When filebot finished it sends me an email that the files were renamed and moved.

curl -sS -X POST "$EMBY_URL/emby/Library/Refresh?api_key=$EMBY_API_KEY"

But it doesn't seem to put the new stuff into the latest very soon.  I set emby to real time monitor.

Does it show up in emby server at all?

yep.  So Filebot tells me it was moved.  I fire up the app on my media player attached to my tv (NVidia shield).  I log out and back in to the server through the app.  Latest media does not show the file.  Scroll to the show and to the last of the files and there it is.

It's not normal that the date added value would get changed in Emby Server after it's already been added to the library.

If this is what's happening, then we should try and learn why by going over a specific example. Could be from a plugin you installed, could be from other software that you have updating your nfo files, etc.

What are we looking at?

I'll try to get another specific instance and get back to you.  Thanks for the help.

The reason I ask is because we are not looking at latest media here. We are looking at recently released movies, and that is tied to the release date and year fields, not date added.

But the process of getting to the bottom is the same:

  • What are the values to begin with?
  • What are they later on after some refresh occurs?
  • What exactly happens that causes it to change later?
