Polyglot 2 Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 Hi, After a NUC computer freeze (if you're using a NUC, I will get on a soap box to get you to abandon it; it's been nothing but a nightmare for me for the last 5 years now; don't come in here trying to change my mind, I have absolutely had it with this dumb thing) I had to pull the plug to get it to turn on and respond to me again. A typical process for me with this stupid computer. Well, now that I'm back into the computer, my Emby server installation is acting *brand new*. I've put a lot of work into setting up this server. I've searched topics around the forums, so I know I am looking for an "Emby-server" folder in my User/<UserName> folder but it's not here. I go to AppData/Roaming and I find "Emby-Server". Not sure if this is the same folder or not. Anyway, I am on Windows 10. It was fine last night, I wake up this morning, and now it wants to act like I've never had it installed. Help?
Polyglot 2 Posted October 30, 2025 Author Posted October 30, 2025 I wanted to update my previous post, but it seems like I can't. I'm sorry. :s I was going to include the logs on my post. Reading through them doesn't have anything jumping out immediately at me. Everything seems okay, except for the port that it's attempting to listen on? If I visit localhost:8096, it asks me to set things up. If I visit localhost:8097(the port I chose) there is no service listening at that address. Could that be related? embyserver.txt
Luke 42077 Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 Hi, did you try just stepping through the wizard and seeing if everything is restored after that?
Polyglot 2 Posted October 31, 2025 Author Posted October 31, 2025 Hi, That's so frustrating that I didn't think to try that first. I backed up my settings and did exactly what you said, and minus the networking stuff (5 minute fix) it retained all my other settings. Including the admin account it made me "create" (not sure if it actually created). I was almost positive it was going to clear out my settings had I proceeded. Well, I'm sorry for creating a pointless topic here. Your suggestion worked. Thanks for getting back to me about this. I'm still not sure how this even occurred. This isn't the first time I've had to pull the NUC's plug to get it to respond again, but it is the first time I "lost" my Emby settings. Anyway, that's besides the point. Thanks for responding.
Luke 42077 Posted October 31, 2025 Posted October 31, 2025 Hi, thanks for the feedback. I would just give everything a once over because you may have to reconfigure some settings. The server's xml config file probably became corrupted somehow, thus leading to all of it's data reverting to a default state. But luckily, it doesn't actually hold that many settings.
Polyglot 2 Posted November 3, 2025 Author Posted November 3, 2025 Luke, Thanks for that. I did give everything a once over and a few things were out of sorts (Networking) but other things were just fine (User Accounts, Libraries and Library Settings) Sorry for throwing up this topic without first trying the wizard. But I am glad that I did, because you gave me the confidence that I wasn't about to wipe all my server settings. The corruption probably occurred after the computer became unresponsive, and I wouldn't fault Emby for that at all. That was all on my machine. Thanks for the help and sorry again. 1
