Khensu 2 Posted October 26, 2025 Posted October 26, 2025 Hey I have to open another thread as I am trying to fully move away from plex, but I can't figure this out as well... I tried to watch a series, which does work on every device so far (Android (3.5.12), Windows 11 (2.234.2.0), XBox (2.234.70.0)) when no transcoding is being used. As soon as I reduce the quality, the transcoding is happening on the server. According to the logs it is also working just fine. See attached. So far so good, the playback also does work on my Windows PC and on my Phone. On the XBox Series X it just starts loading and loading and never actually plays the file. This is not with every file and only with some episodes of this series. I also noticed that some of the mkv files are a bit corrupted at the beginning. Audio and Video does not match and Video does start slighty after the Audio with some fragments, but after 10 seconds or so the video file is totally normal. => This is not related to Emby, the file probably just is corrupted at the beginning a bit. I tried to repair it, with no success. I feel like the XBox App is not handling the (transcoded) corruption very well, as without transcoding it just seems to work, even with corruption at the beginning. Plex for example just replaces the broken parts with a green screen (Transcoding or not), but does play it. So why does it not load at all on the Xbox with transcoding? I can see the client currently playing the media and that transcoding works, but the playing time is always skipping back to 0:00 after 15 seconds or so. I tried to somehow get access to the XBox client app logs... But I cant open or export them in any way. Just nothing happens when I click on the log files. So I sadly can't provide you with those. If you tell me how I can get them from the Xbox App, I'll gladly send you them. Last two playbacks. Kind regards ffmpeg-transcode-e430c88a-7c98-41e5-ac61-4882cd2d9427_1.txt embyserver.txt
Solution softworkz 5065 Posted October 27, 2025 Solution Posted October 27, 2025 Video playback on the Xbox is a difficult topic and we've invested a lot of time and effort to provide a decent video playback implementation for Xbox users - which is different from what we use on any other client platform. When video files are corrupted, it is purely accidental whether it's still working (more or less) on certain player implementations - which may be more or less forgiving to those things. This is something that depends on the individual design of those implementations, but cannot be considered as a "feature". In turn - as we cannot simply change the design - this is not something that is actionable from our side, I'm afraid. I can't say in which exact way those files are corrupted, but what I would try is to remux them while cutting off the first minute or so.
Khensu 2 Posted October 27, 2025 Author Posted October 27, 2025 Thanks for the reply! I fully understand those limitations... didnt really expect for corrupted files to be handled anyway ^^". May I ask one more off topic thing? I noticed when the emby android app starts for the first time after being not opened for a while, the first playback takes around 30 seconds to even start. After every playback starts instantaneous. I only noticed this behavior over public mobile data. In my home wifi network, or even with mobile data via VPN to my home network, this did not occurr... I somehow suspect my reverse proxy, as it also behaves weirdly with Plex. If you have the time and this question is still allowed in this topic, I opened a git issue at pangolin. There is a snippet of the emby client and server logs with the 30 second delay. Not sure why there is the delay, or what causes it.... Git issue: https://github.com/fosrl/pangolin/issues/1756 If you want me to open a new thread thats fine Or move it, if possible ^^ Thanks again 1
Khensu 2 Posted October 29, 2025 Author Posted October 29, 2025 Forget what I asked off-topic. I solved it. It was an issue with DNS entries... IT is always DNS -.- 1
