oceanclub 12 Posted October 25, 2025 Posted October 25, 2025 So I access Emby on a Windows server both from an XBox One X (via Ethernet) and on an Android phone (Samsung S20FE) via local wifi network. I had a particularly big film to watch (20G) and found that on XBox One X, it took about a minute or more just to start up. I assumed this was due to my server not being particularly high-spec and in need of an upgrade. However, then I tried Emby on my phone, and it loaded instantly. I'm wondering why the huge difference in response here? P.
MBSki 1114 Posted October 25, 2025 Posted October 25, 2025 Is it a 4k film? Maybe it's transcoding? Improvements have been made in the app on Xbox to handle 4k content, but it still can't direct streaming so it requires more server resources to transcode and view.
oceanclub 12 Posted October 25, 2025 Author Posted October 25, 2025 It's an MKV with 1080p x264 and AAC audio. One thing I'm confused about is that in the XBox One app's "stats for nerds", it shows as (expected) direct play, so there should be (?) no transcoding happening - see image attachment. But I have transcoding logs being produced. See logs attached, from about the time 15:36 onwards. I'd appreciate if anyone know what is going on here, Cheers, P. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-397c7ed7-c238-42cc-8f4c-ae235f54abba_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-f76433a2-a55c-44b1-98c9-6a5545f6d70a_1.txt
