LG Emby client changes from LAN IP Address to WAN IP Address

I have an LG TV, wired to my network and it receives a LAN IP address.
I am running Emby for LG 1.0.47.
I have configured the client to connect to my Emby server 192.168.1.111 on port 8096.
The account I log in with is only a local Emby account, not an Emby Connect account. It never needs to access the Emby Server from outside the LAN.

After some time, when I look at the connection details it has changed to use my WAN IP address and sometimes starts to transcode due to playback quality setting and playback sometimes pauses for long periods of time.

Why is the client switching from my LAN IP address to my WAN IP address?

Hi. Only reason why this might happen is if for some reason it can't reach the LAN address. Is the LAN address you entered into the app the same one that is displayed on the server dashboard?

Hi Luke,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, the LAN IP address I entered into the app is the same one that is displayed on the server dashboard.

I occasionally re-add the Emby Server (using the LAN IP address).

When I review the client settings it can sometimes revert to the WAN IP address.

The Emby Server is always on and pingable (as it is used for other continuos functions).

I even tried disabling the option to "Allow remote connections to this Emby Server." for this specific user but then the client couldn't connect, even when I configured the LAN IP address.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Regards
Nick

So this explains it then, meaning there are times when your TV can't reach your server using the LAN address.

Is the TV on wireless or wired? Whichever it is, you could try switching it and see if it helps at all.

Hi Luke,

The TV is/was connected via Ethernet.

I have disconnected the Ethernet cable and connect over Wi-Fi.

Client is currently configured to use the LAN IP address; I'll monitor the situation.

Many thanks

Another thing is that if your server LAN ip address changes, try setting a static IP in your router to prevent this from happening.

Please keep us posted.

Emby server LAN IP address is static.

OK I think you will need to find out why the LAN address becomes unreachable at certain times. That is the only reason why the address would ever switch.

Please let us know what you find. Disabling remote access for that user might actually be a good way to narrow it down. When it happens what I would immediately try to do is open the browser on the TV and see if you can reach the server in the web app.

Apologies for the delay in updating...

I have replaced the Emby server hardware, fresh Emby install, new o/s (W11), created a firewall rule on the Emby server to allow internal pings, replaced my network hardware (Orbi router and satellite), and assigned a static IP address to the TV (Emby server has always had a static IP address).

Still happening - it seems to alternate between internal and external access each time I tune the TV on/off.

Disabling remote access for the user prevents the user being able to log in.

Next time I see Emby coming in via the internet, will try the built in TV browser and see what I get.
