Skip Intro markers not being generated despite scheduled task completing

Description / Background:
All my libraries (Anime, Movies, TV Series) are scanned and with Detect Intro enabled.

I have enabled the generate intro video markers for all the libraries.

  • Generate intro video markers → scheduled task enabled & when file is added” enabled

Issue Example:
For Slow Horses – Season 1 (6 episodes):

  • No Skip Intro button appears when playing.

  • Intro normally starts at ~4–5 minutes into the video (well within the 10-minute cutoff).

  • Season 1 meets the minimum requirement  of 2 episodes I have 6 episodes.

  • Video thumbnails have already been generated successfully.

  • I manually ran Detect Intro Video Markers task → finishes instantly (0 seconds), suggesting it thinks markers already exist or nothing to do.

Expectation:
Skip Intro markers should be generated and visible for Slow Horses S01E01–E06.

What I Tried:

  • Verified video thumbnails exist for the episodes.

  • Manually ran the scheduled task multiple times.

  • Rescanned the library.

  • Confirmed minimum episode count is met and intro is within first 10 min.

Just FYI if this is any useful information - plex detected the intro for all.

I would suggest getting logs for this to see what is happening

So suggest:

- enable debug logging on the server - see Log Files article

- remove Slow Horses Season 1 from the TV library

- Scan the library to confirm that the show is no longer in the library

- restart Emby Server to get fresh logs created

- Add Slow Horses Season 1 to the library

- Scan the library - or wait for Library live monitor to detect the change and do a scan

- Wait for all scan activity to complete

- check the Skip Intro markers result

- if there is a problem, download the emby server logs and attach

First of all, a big thank you to the Emby team — I just recently shifted over, and I’m genuinely impressed by how active, responsive, and supportive everyone is here on the forum. It really shows the passion behind the project.

I’m currently travelling, so kindly allow me a few days to get back to you on this (maybe earlier if I can). For now, I’m facing a bigger issue (emby crash out of the blue) for which I’ve started another post.

Thanks again for the amazing support!

Hey. Sorry it has been a hit and miss but coz I was migrating all libraries from plex to emby in one shot so I think it was too much for the system to handle. I will keep an eye out if the intro issue starts happening again and come back with the logs.

OK we'll take a look at it. Thanks.

Hey @Luke

All my libraries are configured to run intro detection as a scheduled task and when media is added. A new anime episode was downloaded, but no intro markers appeared during playback.

To verify, I manually ran the Intro Detection task, and when I replayed the same episode, the Skip Intro option immediately appeared. This suggests that intro detection is not triggering on new media being added, and only works when the scheduled task is run manually.

Logs are attached for reference.
Episode in question: A Gatherer's Adventure in Isekai Episode 10

HI, are you still running into this with Emby Server 4.9.3?

Not sure whether I should post on this topic or create a new one, but I am not getting any Intro detection on my TV DVR library.

The  library is configured as mixed content as recommended for the DVR.

Even if I manually run Detect Episode Intros it finishes in zero seconds.

Lets have a look at one example after a recording to see what is in the emby server logs. See How to Report a Problem

Capture the logs half an hour after a recording is completed.

You could also enable debug logging at this point and then run the scheduled task and on completion download the log and upload

Please indicate which series / season this relates to and which recording

With debug enabled the logs only show:

2026-02-10 14:50:25.657 Info TaskManager: Executing Detect Episode Intros
2026-02-10 14:50:25.668 Info TaskManager: Detect Episode Intros Completed after 0 minute(s) and 0 seconds

I will try a new recording with debug enabled and check after recording finished.

But please do upload the full log file and a screenshot of the season/series folders contents to see how many episodes exist for the season/show

I just scheduled a single recording of a new episode of Big Bang Theory, no prior episodes or seasons existed.

Logs attached.

I cannot see anything saying to trigger intro scan but can see a library refresh when the recording finishes at 14:05

I am not sure what the algorithm is for Emby for starting intro detection but I do know for Plex one needed to have a number of episodes before it would start detecting as it was looking for a repeating pattern to look for.

I need to find out what the Emby algorithm is

Do you have an example of it failing when there is already more than 3 episodes or more in the season folder ?

No. I thought it would just run intro detection immediately a new recording came in? (irrespective of prior recordings).

I guess I can try recording a series and then checking.

btw if it does need multiple episodes then I suggest the docs are updated to reflect this, there is no mention of it here https://emby.media/support/articles/Intro-Skip.html

I have add a note to the support article Intro Skip to mention that at least 2 episodes are needed for a season before intro detection can start to analyze the episodes in a season

Brilliant, I'll try again with 2 episodes then adding another.

@sa2000I there any way to rerun this no a series / episode?

And not having to refresh all metadata?

I ask as every time I have to do this Emby deletes all chapter markers created by other plugins.

I see that Credit marker are deleted, and this plugin has to do its work again.

There are no specific interfaces for rerunning specifics like video preview thumbs, intro markers

If a file that we processed before changes then we ought to rerun the analysis for skip intro markers when the scheduled task runs. Is this the issue that you have seen ?

and please ensure you run the emby server with debug logging enabled (settings / server / Logs / Settings) as that has some extra logging, So have that in place and have logs covering periods when new recorded episodes are added and also after when running the "Detect Episode Intros" scheduled task manually

Thanks

It worked OK on a library with multiple episodes, thanks.
