sfatula 207 Posted October 18, 2025 Posted October 18, 2025 See this page: https://emby.media/support/articles/Apple-TV.html It reports subtitles being direct played as several that are not supported in .mp4 files. The page doesn't specifically mention mp4 though for subtitles, so, is it perhaps referring to say .ssa in a .mkv file? But Apple TV would not natively play that either. It's really strange as it is an Apple TV page, and Apple TV does not natively play those, or at least very well, and they can't be in mp4 files. Can someone lighten me? I know that's hard to do.
Luke 42077 Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Hi, yes the app has an alternative player embedded that is used when the native player doesn't support the file. So yes, ass/ssa can direct play.
sfatula 207 Posted October 28, 2025 Author Posted October 28, 2025 So, you are saying that page reflects not the native player but mpv? I suspect mpv plays way more than what is shown on that page. Simple example - mkv. I thought the page was intending to reflect native player only. I think the page needs updating was my point.

It reflects the app as a whole with the player selection set to auto, and not worrying about which player gets chosen.
