paulper 1 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 (edited) Hi all, New to Emby. I've had some fun and games setting up Emby and trying to get remote access working via my Synology DS720+. Thanks to Tailscale that is now working and the app looks brilliant. However, I use TagScanner to do bulk work on tags and yet the meta data in Emby does not seem to update - even if I force it. What am I doing wrong? Should I delete my entire music library and re-import everytime? Thanks, Paul Edited October 16, 2025 by paulper
user24 312 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Hi, after you make the Tagscanner embedded metadata changes, where are you updating (forcing) the music tags/metadata from in Emby and exactly how are you doing it? Can you give any specific examples? If you go to the Folders menu tab in your Music Library and update from the relevant parent folder there, then Emby should import the changes in that folder and all the child folders below, without you needing to always update the whole library for a small change. A "Scan Library Files" update should be sufficient for basic changes. Sometimes a "Refresh Metadata" update may be required. Let us know if this helps? Cheers!
paulper 1 Posted October 16, 2025 Author Posted October 16, 2025 Thank you for the prompt response. I was right-clicking the album and selecting Refresh Metadata, but that didn't work. I then went to the Folders menu and did likewise, but the only way I could get it to update was by deleting any mis-labelled albums and then re-importing via the Folders menu. I will look to see whether 'Scan Library Files' saves me all of that hassle, but that obviously takes a while to complete. Cheers, Paul

Example: I had a 2-disc compilation named as 'XXX (CD1)' and 'XXX (CD2)' and, using TagScanner, changed the album name to just 'XXX', correctly adding Disc labels 1/2 and 2/2. No changes were made in Emby. The 2 discs were still listed as 2 separate albums. I tried 'Refresh Metadata' and more recently 'Scan Library Files' but neither options worked. To make it work, I had to head to the Albums tab, find 'XXX (CD1)' and 'XXX (CD2)' and delete both then head to the Folders tab, click the appropriate folder and 'Scan For Library Files'. This produced a single merged 'XXX' album, which correctly lists the tracks under Disc 1 and Disc 2. I was surprised it didn't pick up the changed metadata automatically and that it took for me to delete the incorrectly titled albums. Or is there a more efficient way to do this that avoids having to locate and delete the albums that have been amended? Thanks, Paul

Thanks, Paul Hi @paulper Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem But this should be improved in the 4.9 release. Thanks!
paulper 1 Posted October 29, 2025 Author Posted October 29, 2025 (edited) Hi @Luke Thanks for the response. Please see the attached log. I made the change in TagScanner at 6.36am. Logged into Emby an hour or so later and the album name remained as it was. In the DS Audio app, the album name has automatically changed. Hi @Luke A quick update - I've noticed if the album name does not change, then other changes to the meta data are picked up. For example, I swapped out a track on a compilation of my own and it updated. Thanks, Paul 1
