marriedman 85 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Yes I know there are a few other threads talking about this issue, but I think mine might be different or at least a little more detailed. I run Ubuntu server for my Emby server, all of my metadata is stored in NFO files. This started on the latest stable release and persists on the beta which I just updated to today. I also did a Library rescan after the update to the beta. I read through this thread: Empty Genres and tried any solutions that were recommended. I know for a fact that I do not have embedded tags in my video files because one of the empty Genres is a typo I made in the NFO (Comdey instead of Comedy) The other Genre is one that I have never used, Sci-Fi. I have only ever used Science Fiction. But, just to be sure, I ran this script to erase Genre tags: #!/bin/bash # Recursively remove only the GENRE metadata tag from all MKV and MP4 files # Log successful removals to removed_genre.log LOGFILE="removed_genre.log" : > "$LOGFILE" # Empty the log file at start shopt -s globstar nullglob for file in **/*.{mkv,mp4}; do echo "Processing: $file" if [[ $file == *.mkv ]]; then if mkvpropedit "$file" --delete "GENRE" 2>/dev/null; then echo "$(date '+%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S') [MKV] $file" >> "$LOGFILE" fi elif [[ $file == *.mp4 ]]; then if AtomicParsley "$file" --genre "" --overWrite 2>/dev/null; then echo "$(date '+%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S') [MP4] $file" >> "$LOGFILE" fi fi done echo " Done. Successful removals logged to: $LOGFILE" I installed GenreCleaner and tried remapping and/or deleting the Genre, but that didn't appear to do anything. While this is not a deal breaker, obviously. But I am a bit OCD about my library and it's bugging the crap outta me!
Luke 42077 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 HI, it's not really about embedded metadata. It is that the genres as assigned to something in your server database, and whatever that something is, it's not displayed on the next screen when you click the genre. So your issue should be the same as the others.
marriedman 85 Posted October 15, 2025 Author Posted October 15, 2025 Oh, then I misunderstood the issue. Just to be sure I understand now, there is no fix as of now and you guys are aware of the issue. Is that correct?
