Aspect Ratio on new Windows App

Is it just me or has the aspect ratio on Windows App become worse. 

I used to be able to stretch window to make it fill screen but in certain videos, non of the aspect ratios actually change anything. It cant remove black bars are top and bottom like it used to. 

I know its bad practice but some time i could stretch to fit 1/3 of my screen and stretch. yes it would make people lanky but it would still fit the 1/3 window space.  

Any thoughts. Or explanation on what has changed that changes how aspect ratio works

Some videos have the black bars encoded into them so the image is 16:9 even if the movie itself is 2.4:1, for instance.

But I'm mystified that anyone would choose to deliberately distort an image by changing its aspect ratio.  If you have some overriding reason to fill a particular screen, use material that fits it...

Absolutely nothging has changed. The only news is a dynamic aspect ratio mode which performs black-bar detection and can adjust the image presentation accordingly. (it doesn't distort anything, though)
