Qu405 HW Transcoding Failure

Hi Luke,

I have purchased an Emby Premiere subscription. Everything works perfectly when running the Emby Server on Windows using an Alder Lake-N N97 system.

Because of that positive experience, I recently bought a new QNAP model, the Qu405, which uses a similar architecture with the Intel N355 processor.

However, whether I use the official QPKG package or the Docker version on this QNAP, I am unable to see the hardware transcoding option in Emby (as shown).

Just to verify that it’s not a hardware or driver issue, I installed Jellyfin using Docker on the same device, and it was able to enable Quick Sync Video (QSV) and perform hardware transcoding smoothly (see Screenshot 2).
 

Also, I have activated the Emby hardware transcoding feature by enabling the proper driver and confirming that the necessary device nodes (/dev/dri) are accessible inside the container. So licensing or permissions should not be the issue here.

I’ve attached my Emby log file for your reference, and below is the Docker Compose YAML file I used to deploy Emby:

I don't have a Qnap, but try removing these to lines.

I removed those two lines, and the result is still the same.
I have tried this several times before.

Same result.
The device authentication is not the key point.
Because I just configured Jellyfin sucessfully by same authentication method.

This (and other newer CPU/GPU) requires updated drivers (as you have installed), but that won't work with any current stable version of Emby on a Linux system.

You need to wait for Emby to update the stable release (they have said it will happen sometime...) or use the current beta (9.4.1.2-beta or newer).

PLEASE NOTE: Once you go to the beta, you may not be able to return to the stable version without a clean install!

The biggest problem of rajiska's version(3rd party) is only VA-API available.
After my testing, HDR、hevc main 120/150 formats are still transcoded by CPU.
Finally, I pulled the Emby's beta version. Everything works fine. You might try it.
I am looking forward to the release of updated official version.

@LukePls can you tell me which beta version has right drivers? 4.9.4.x or 4.9.2.x? I have qnap with N5095 and problem with trascoding is frustrating my family. I will update to beta version.
