dardeaw 3 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 (edited) Hi Luke, I have purchased an Emby Premiere subscription. Everything works perfectly when running the Emby Server on Windows using an Alder Lake-N N97 system. Because of that positive experience, I recently bought a new QNAP model, the Qu405, which uses a similar architecture with the Intel N355 processor. However, whether I use the official QPKG package or the Docker version on this QNAP, I am unable to see the hardware transcoding option in Emby (as shown). Just to verify that it’s not a hardware or driver issue, I installed Jellyfin using Docker on the same device, and it was able to enable Quick Sync Video (QSV) and perform hardware transcoding smoothly (see Screenshot 2). Also, I have activated the Emby hardware transcoding feature by enabling the proper driver and confirming that the necessary device nodes (/dev/dri) are accessible inside the container. So licensing or permissions should not be the issue here. I’ve attached my Emby log file for your reference, and below is the Docker Compose YAML file I used to deploy Emby: version: '3.6' services: emby: container_name: emby image: 'emby/embyserver:latest' environment: - PUID=1000 - PGID=44 - TZ=Asia/Taipei volumes: - /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Container/Emby_Config:/config - /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia/Movies:/media - type: tmpfs target: /scratch tmpfs: size: 10000000000 devices: - /dev/dri/renderD128:/dev/dri/renderD128 - /dev/dri/card0:/dev/dri/card0 - /dev/dri:/dev/dri ports: - '8096:8096' - '8920:8920' restart: unless-stopped Could you please help me identify what might be causing Emby to not detect the hardware transcoding capability on this system, while Jellyfin works fine? Thank you for your time and support! embyserver.txt hardware_detection-63896080757.txt Edited October 14, 2025 by dardeaw

dardeaw 3 Posted October 15, 2025 Author Posted October 15, 2025 I removed those two lines, and the result is still the same. I have tried this several times before.
Neminem 1515 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Hmm just noticed this. - /dev/dri:/dev/dri try this - /dev/dri/:/dev/dri/
dardeaw 3 Posted October 15, 2025 Author Posted October 15, 2025 (edited) Hi Neminem: Same result. The device authentication is not the key point. Because I just configured Jellyfin sucessfully by same authentication method. hardware_detection-63896164245.txt.crdownload embyserver.txt.crdownload Edited October 15, 2025 by dardeaw
Neminem 1515 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Sorry I'm out of other things to try. You will have to wait for a dev to reply.

This (and other newer CPU/GPU) requires updated drivers (as you have installed), but that won't work with any current stable version of Emby on a Linux system. You need to wait for Emby to update the stable release (they have said it will happen sometime...) or use the current beta (9.4.1.2-beta or newer). PLEASE NOTE: Once you go to the beta, you may not be able to return to the stable version without a clean install!
Luke 42077 Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 Hi, yes we have an updated intel driver on the beta channel in case you need immediate relief.
dardeaw 3 Posted October 20, 2025 Author Posted October 20, 2025 Hi Luke: Thank for your response. I don't have the courage to try the beta version. When will the official release be available?
Luke 42077 Posted October 20, 2025 Posted October 20, 2025 Hi, yes we’re planning on eventually back porting the updated driver to stable once we’ve worked through any issues with it.
dcg_sx 1 Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 Hi, I have tried docker pull rajiska/emby-n150-fixed . And hw transcoding worked ! 1
dardeaw 3 Posted November 2, 2025 Author Posted November 2, 2025 Hi dcg_sx: I have tried this image "rajiska/emby-n150-fixed", but I Failed. Could you please provide your docker configure command or yaml? Appreciating for your information. Best Regards.
dardeaw 3 Posted November 3, 2025 Author Posted November 3, 2025 The biggest problem of rajiska's version(3rd party) is only VA-API available. After my testing, HDR、hevc main 120/150 formats are still transcoded by CPU. Finally, I pulled the Emby's beta version. Everything works fine. You might try it. I am looking forward to the release of updated official version. 1
Luke 42077 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 HI, we should have an update out soon that will have everything from the beta channel. Thanks.

tlkounev 14 Posted December 23, 2025 Posted December 23, 2025 @LukePls can you tell me which beta version has right drivers? 4.9.4.x or 4.9.2.x? I have qnap with N5095 and problem with trascoding is frustrating my family. I will update to beta version.

Luke 42077 Posted December 26, 2025 Posted December 26, 2025 Hi yes please try the latest beta and let us know how things compare. Thanks.
