pigers 1 Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Hi, Apparently my Nvidia Shield PRO does not like to playback some files from Doctor Who, while on PC it plays great in browser. Can you advise ? brothom 177 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 (edited) @pigerslooks like you're trying to view x265 (HEVC) media on your Android TV and looking at your screenshots, the file is being transcoded to x264. It looks to me that your Android TV is either somewhat old and doesn't actually support x265 media or that your Shield doesn't seem to support x265 either, at least most of them don't according to a quick Google search. You should be able to play x264 files without problem right? --- What I personally do is that I keep my high-res 4K stuff at HEVC (most newer devices can easily play this, with the exception of Chromecast, Shield, Windows 10 apparently, etc) and create downscaled copies with x264 and AAC, since most older devices support that. pigers 1 Posted October 13, 2025 Author Posted October 13, 2025 Other H/x- 265 encoded files are working fine. Only that series is causing issues.
brothom 177 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 @pigerswell even if others seem to work file, this file actually has an error causing it to transcode: 6 minutes ago, pigers said: Other H/x- 265 encoded files are working fine. Only that series is causing issues. Even if other files work fine, can you check if they're not being transcoded as well? What you could also try is selecting a different quality for this media as it seems to not be supported by your device. The file seems to be created by "HandBrake 1.7.0 2023111500", did you convert this file yourself or is there another original file? Regardless, this file seems a little bit "funky" and upscaling 3mbps to 5mbps seems like a pretty bad idea so something weird is going on.

Solution pigers 1 Posted October 21, 2025 Author Solution Posted October 21, 2025 (edited) Fixed it myself .. NVENC encoder sux - use H265 via CPU.
