HanSolo 21 Posted October 10, 2025 Posted October 10, 2025 Hi, I've got a AS-604T, last night I noticed there was an update in my app central to 4.9.1.80 so I applied it and now I can't connect I've tried clearing the cache and I've tried connecting with Edge, Firefox and Chrome - these are all on the release channel, so they have the latest stable updates. In addition, I've tried connecting with mobile Firefox and Symfonium I have the logs, it looks to me like there is maybe some error with ffmpeg but I'm not sure. Is there somewhere I can send the logs? I'm not real keen on posting them publicly Thanks! HS
HanSolo 21 Posted October 10, 2025 Author Posted October 10, 2025 I forgot to mention that after the initial upgrade failed (couldn't connect) I uninstalled and reinstalled but I'm still getting the same issues of not being able to connect. Also, the Edge error is "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" HS
Luke 42077 Posted October 10, 2025 Posted October 10, 2025 Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!
HanSolo 21 Posted October 10, 2025 Author Posted October 10, 2025 Hi Luke, I DM'd you the logs. I didn't want to expose the information in them to the public internet. Thanks HS
Luke 42077 Posted October 10, 2025 Posted October 10, 2025 HI, the server log is from 4.9.0.70. Did 4.9.1.80 ever start?
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 (edited) Hi, That's the only log I have from yesterday (10/9) and I don't have any logs from today even though the NAS has been on all the time since I installed / uninstalled /reinstalled I just looked and I don't see an Emby process running (I don't know what exactly it's called but I'm assuming it's embyd or something similar). I also looked at the system logs and I don't see anything about emby in them Please let me know if I can more information or try anything I'm not sure if this is relevant but I have over 2100 ffmpeg log files in my log directory HS Edited October 11, 2025 by HanSolo

Hi, I found the "App Central" logs they say "Emby Server-4.9.1.80" "Install Success" I also tried disabling then enabling the app, that didn't work. Then I tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling again that also didn't work and the logs are still not being created. I'm still trying to troubleshoot the issue but very familiar with the linux, especially the asustore version so any ideas are welcome. happy to run commands and share the output as well. Can you tell me what the service name for emby server is? I think that would be helpful HS
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 So is that a no that there are no runtime logs mentioning 4.9.1.80?
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 None that I can find. I was hoping to find a more detailed install log but no dice there either just that one entry in the App Central log that's not very helpful at all.
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 OK, a few months ago, following an ADM update, the server stopped starting for some users. We have worked with Asustor on this but have not fully resolved it yet. We did release an update that has appeared to solve it for about half of the impacted users. Anyway we think it is permissions related. You could try the workarounds in this topic beginning with alucryd's postings: That has helped some of these users get their server to start.
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 Okay, I tried the manual start proposed in that thread: sudo -u emby /usr/local/AppCentral/emby-server/bin/emby-server I get a different error message: /usr/local/AppCentral/emby-server/system/EmbyServer: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.20' not found (required by /usr/local/AppCentral/emby-server/system/EmbyServer) Looks like some kind of versioning issue. Is there anything I can do about that?
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 What version of adm do you have? Is it up to date?
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 I have ADM 3.5.9.RWM1 which is the latest for my AS-604T.
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 OK the error you are seeing might be due to the fact that we stopped bundling our own glibc within the server and are instead just using the one on the system. The one on your system is probably extremely old given the ADM version. Unfortunately we can't easily undo this change right now because this is the change that helped resolve the server not starting for some users. So this is a 2013 model? That is quite a feat that the server has been able to run all this time, however, your best bet right now I think would be to get back up and running with 4.8.11.
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 This NAS has been rock solid for me, it's ancient, it's also on the upgrade list but I need it to make it a little while longer. I plan on continuing to use it after I've gotten a new one, I'll obviously move my music server at that point. Any way I can go back to 4.9.0.70? that was the version that I was running when I started the upgrade process.
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Quote Any way I can go back to 4.9.0.70? Yea that's even better. Does Asustor let you install old versions? If not then you can get the 4.9 file from https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/tag/4.8.11.0
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 (edited) There is a way to install APK files from App Central so let me try and install that. I'm bummed that I'll have to stay on 4.9.0.70 ((same way I'm bummed about not being able to upgrade ADM anymore), I like to keep my software up to date. I'll let you know how it goes. Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 The glibc bunding or not bundling is something that tends to flip back and forth over time as needs arise, so you never know. Although even if we did go back to bundling it, we really are only testing ADM 4 and 5 at this point. The fact that it has been running all this time on ADM 3 is a pleasant surprise though.
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 Gah, I'm getting the same error with 4.9.0.70. I wonder if the libraries survived somehow all the way from 4.8.11.0 and they got nuked when I uninstalled when I was troubleshooting the issues. I'm going to try side loading 4.8.11.0 now.
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 If you were running 4.9 before then I would not try and go back to 4.8.11. Not unless you have to at least. That's odd that you're getting the same error because I think those are the same apk's we submitted to Asustor. In theory I suppose it's possible we replaced them on github after the fact, but I don't recall doing that.
Luke 42077 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Is there no way to install an old version from app central?
HanSolo 21 Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 oops, I did it before I saw your message. Things look okay though; it's starting and I can basically access the web interface. What do you think about upgrading to 4.9.0.70 now?
