🧩 What is EmbyWatch?

EmbyWatch is an Android app designed to monitor, manage, and control your Emby Media Server remotely.
It’s made primarily for admins and advanced users who want to keep track of what’s happening on their Emby setup in real time.

📦 Google Play Store link:

🎬 What Does EmbyWatch Do?

Unlike the standard Emby app (which focuses on media playback), EmbyWatch is built for:

  • Real-time session monitoring (who’s watching what, from where)

  • User and device management

  • Accessing logs, tasks, and server statistics

  • Performing remote administrative actions (restart, stop, trigger tasks, etc.)

⚙️ Main Features

Category Description
🧠 Real-time monitoring View active sessions: who’s streaming, what media, playback progress, codec, bitrate, etc.
👥 User management Display user list, recent activity, permissions, and even send messages to connected users
💻 Connected devices See all connected clients (TVs, phones, browsers) with connection times and device details
🗃️ Library overview View all media libraries (movies, shows, music, photos) with item counts and stats
🔄 Scheduled tasks Check and run scheduled tasks (library scans, cleanups, metadata refresh, etc.)
🧩 Plugins / extensions View installed plugins, versions, and update availability
⚙️ System / network info Access server technical details (OS, version, IPs, ports, uptime, CPU load)
📄 Logs & history Browse detailed logs with filters (by user, event type, time range)
▶️ Basic playback support Start media playback directly from the app (for supported formats)
🔔 Notifications & widgets Notifications for new sessions or server events + home-screen widgets for monitoring

💡 Highlights

✅ Clean and responsive interface
✅ Works with multiple Emby servers
✅ Real-time monitoring dashboard
✅ Perfect for admins managing shared servers
✅ Available in multiple languages (including English & French)

⚠️ Limitations

  • This is not a full media player app – it’s focused on server monitoring and control.

  • Some features require administrator access to your Emby server.

  • Certain sections may still be in beta or vary depending on Android version.

  • Includes in-app purchases for premium features.

What are the in-app purchases?

That's already a red flag for me.

Can't find what the in-app purchase refers to.

The only thing I saw was this.

You forgot to indicate that it's also spying abusively on user device. It collects gps position, postal code, first and last name of user among other informations :( App deinstalled and banned here from all my devices.

Hello, what are you talking about? No GPS location permission is used.

You'd need to support such statements with some proof, else it might just come off as slander. I'm sure anyone interested in the app would appreciate that info.

I can second that, no additional permissions were required upon install.

It's reported by DuckDuckGo tool to detect/block all trackers on Android Device. I'm curious to understand why it reports these if as you say App doesn't access these datas. How is that possible ?

Side note: did you know that there is a project on github named Embywatch already ? https://github.com/d3v1l1989/embywatch (totally unrelated project but still same name ;)

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback! Regarding your question, if DuckDuckGo is reporting blocked trackers, it would be helpful if you could share more details about what exactly is being blocked. Could you show us the notifications or detailed reports you’re getting from the tool? I'm not quite sure how these trackers are being flagged if, as you said, the app doesn’t access this data. It would help us better understand what's going on.

As for the GitHub project "Embywatch," I can confirm that it is not our project. It’s an entirely separate one, even though it shares the same name. We have no connection to that repository.

Feel free to share the information about the trackers and let us know if you have any other questions!

I just purchased the premium version. I like it very much especially for the notifications! It remembers tautulli for Plex. Thank you so much much.

I noticed somes improvements to do:

1. In active session it shows 720, but 1080 in Emby. The resolution is 1920x804, I suppose that Emby "understand " it as 1920 and this app as 720. Not sure who "lies" 🙂

2. In sessions history it takes a lot of time to charge and  (maybe it's du le to the amount of media files).

3. I had a notification says "an unknown user connected..."  but no user connected to the server. I will check when it will repeat.

However, it's a good start. I like very much the notifications section. Please add the stop and pause/play button in active session. I see only the option to send a message.

Thank you for this app.

Ok.

I discovered why the message "an unknown user connected" appears.

I have an Onkyo amplifier that is connected to the my android box connected to my tv. When I opened the android box and the amplifier, I had this message and it said that "a unknown user (it was, me, admin) connected to the Emby using"... my Onkyo receiver!

The same thing happened with an Android TV (Sony). When it was opened I had a message saying that "an unknown user connected to... a smart clock!" I have a smart clock that is connected to this tv.

Please check guys and find the solution. I hope it will help.

D'accord.

Look at the activity logs from emby to see if the logs match and if its notifications bother you you can deactivate them from the options of Embywatch.

The Embywatch app shows always the notification that the user connected to the server even if the same notification does not appear in the activity section of the Emby app. But it missing in activity log in Embywatch.

In my case, in Emby app I don't see the message: "admin Has Authenticated on myserver" when I opened my Android box and tv connected to the Onkyo receiver.

Finally, just check please why another devices (Onkyo receiver and smart clock in my case) appears as active device using Emby in Embywatch. That devices does not appear neither in the devices section in the Emby app.

One more time, thank you for the app. My objective it's to improve it that's why I share her my user experience.

Yes, I understand and I really appreciate your feedback. This allows us to constantly improve. The notifications received and displayed for new devices come from the Emby rest API, so normally if you receive this notification, it is because your devices have connected or opened a new session (without necessarily having made a connection request with login/password).

I don't understand, it must take the login of the person who is connected to the device, not unknown Oo"

I saw that message when I connected from my Android box (with Onkyo receiver) and Sony tv (connected to the smart clock). However, I quickly checked in the activity section in the Emby app and nothing was there. I will post a screenshot next time.

And also, it will be great to be able to set the notifications for each user. For example, I don't need to have the notification when I (admin) connect to the Emby server.
