DarkStar1977 122 Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 (edited) I've updated the server to latest version and this still happens even with Chrome browser. Any plans to solve it ? BTW, after showing the message "No compatible streams available" Emby Server frezes, but not only the app. the entire NAS WDPR4100 is frozen having to push the power button to force a shutdown. I don't know what have been done with this version but is mainly consuming entire CPU and Memory every time that a simple metadata refresh happens, it's not properly optimized fot WD NAS. I'm going to open this in WD forum. Edited October 9, 2025 by DarkStar1977
DarkStar1977 122 Posted October 9, 2025 Author Posted October 9, 2025 (edited) The new release of Emby server 4.9 is consuming the entire CPU and Memory just by running a Metadata refresh on an item or scanning a library on my WD PR4100. ffmpeg service when fails (AV1 4K Videos Topic) Consumes 100% of CPU and Crashes the entire server, making it unresponsive and forcing to power off a WD PR4100, the server is fully innaccessible by web frontend and even SSH, not responding. I'm attaching the log after NAS restart, not sure if will be useful. hardware_detection-63895577227.txt embyserver (1).txt Edited October 9, 2025 by DarkStar1977

Luke 42325 Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 Quote ffmpeg service when fails (AV1 4K Videos Topic) Is it a good idea to even try transcoding av1 on this machine? is that what you are referring to?

Same videos are transcoded by Plex with no issue over the same HW. And before you ask, no, I don't have plex and emby enabled simultaneously, in fact when I enable one, the other is disabled.

Luke 42325 Posted October 9, 2025 Posted October 9, 2025 OK if you're playing on the emby macOS app then it has an issue with av1 that is resolved for the next app update. Thanks.

Abejo 15 Posted November 5, 2025 Posted November 5, 2025 I'm also experiencing high CPU usage. A few moments ago, I had a client connected with the Emby app on Android TV, and the CPU usage went above 20%. It was transcoding, but it had never exceeded 4% before. What I did notice is that, unlike before, the transcoding was much faster. I suppose that might be the reason.
Rumzzz 35 Posted Sunday at 09:34 AM Posted Sunday at 09:34 AM (edited) I am also running into high RAM usage, running on version 4.10.0.8 Not sure if my scenario is the same issue, but on startup the Emby process will immediately take up 10GB of RAM and it will stay there regardless of activity. In the past I would typically only see this high of RAM usage during a vacuum, but it would usually return to normal once it was done. Edited Sunday at 09:36 AM by Rumzzz
DarkStar1977 122 Posted Sunday at 09:55 AM Author Posted Sunday at 09:55 AM (edited) @Rumzzzforget it, the new version is a mess, completely overload a 3K Euro NAS in my case, causing even overheat alerts, not saying just editing any image on any movie or show makes the interface starts spinning and stucked for MINUTES just to add a new background or replace a poster. I had to restart emby service 3 times a day ... just to get back to a normal behaviour. They did not optimized this version for anything that is not Windows with tons of RAM: Below Emby server doing NOTHING and cosuming more RAM than installed, causing disks to not stop never and impossible to go to sleep: If I can rollback to previous version 4.8 I have done it. Not to say that Infuse client works better than AppleTV one ... but this is another discussion. Xing the fingers to get a native WD Jellyfin version soon. Edited Sunday at 09:58 AM by DarkStar1977
Rumzzz 35 Posted Sunday at 10:31 PM Posted Sunday at 10:31 PM Sorry I should have mentioned I am running Windows 11 and still getting high ram usage (13600k/32GB/SN850x). It used to be very lean at times, dropping down to 100Mb when idle. Overnight, I saw the service dropped down to 4GB RAM usage (which is still pretty high for being idle). After every reboot it shoots back up to 10GB. I really like Emby but the recent versions have had enough issues to make me consider alternatives. Not many programs handle the indexing of music tags as robustly as Emby, which is mainly why I stick with it.
Rumzzz 35 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Ok so I just realized my RAM usage is only related to when a vacuum is enabled (I forgot I had this setting enabled on every boot). Once disabled, RAM usage goes back to normal (booting/idle at 100MB). @Lukeis it normal for a vacuum boot to reach that high of RAM usage and remain there even at idle? I don't recall that happening in the past. Let me know if I should open a new thread for my issue and include logs.
