Issue with iOS app continuing to play

Hi all.  I'm using iOS 18.7 on an ipad and noticed a new issue that is fairly recent (maybe introduced with an update?)

If I pause whatever is playing and resume before the device sleeps it picks back up, but if the device sleeps while paused the video and audio basically continue in the background.  Then we I turn it back on and hit play the video has progressed while the device was asleep.  It's really weird and I'm not sure where to begin.  I have logs attached if that helps.

Hi, did you by chance configure the background video option in the app?

I checked but that option is set to Off.  It's weird because it looks paused, but when I hit play again it jumps way ahead as if I had never paused.
