empty genres 4.9.1.80

hi, since the last update, I have a lot of empty genres in the series library that I can't get rid of. these are genres that I had previously removed from various series and were already gone in older emby versions.

Hmm yep looks like I will have to do some database cleanup as that looks like some really old garbage.

@LukeI see looking in the database these genres are linked to specific episodes per embedded metadata.

So I guess the question will be if I clear all embedded tags will it clear up the database?

Yep, removing embedded metadata from 3000 episodes corrected the rogue genre issue shown above.

Is Emby now reading Series-Episode level metadata in files ?

It used to be Show level....

Or am I wrong ?

Yes all file embedded metadata is first priority.  So episode info can be different then Show/Series.  But at the same time Emby does not technically display episode in Genre only Show/Series.  That is why in my case there were many empty Genres as they were linked to episodes per embedded metadata.

That's why I saw emties.

But clicking the play button did play an episode.

Guess this is a  bug

I kept playing them, an editing media files that had that.

Guess this was going to come up at 1 point or another.

Right now I have Tdarr removing embedded data.
