mrmixed 77 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) @Happy2Play Thanks for your post on the parallel topic -- I can't reply there because that topic is now closed for replies. (It might be worth re-opening depending on your answers to my questions below.) I have two questions: Does this update fix the item discussed by @cp41in the other topic? Specifically that the collapsed content displays as folders rather than titles, rendering the entire endeavor moot? (As discovered in beta 4.9.4.1) Assuming this bug has fixed in the new release 4.9.3.0 (which was my question in that topic immediately before your post), what is the upgrade path for people running beta 4.9.4.1 to install this new release? On my installation (Synology NAS), I'm getting a message that I can't rollback 4.9.4.1 to 4.9.3.0. I'd really like to know if this bug is fixed, and when beta users will get a release that allows them to actually get the actual legacy functionality fully restored. Edited January 9 by mrmixed
cp41 42 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I have a development server running on Mac OS and 4.9.3 appears to have fixed the issue. BUT...I installed 4.9.3 on my Synology NAS (DSM 7.2+) and I have not seen the issue resolved (I was previously running 4.9.1.80). I made sure to select the "Legacy" scanning option for my Mixed Content and Movie libraries. I re-scanned the libraries, but all the movie folders continue to be treated like Folders and not individual media items. I even created new Mixed Content and Movie libraries with new files (with Legacy scan selected) but the behavior still acts like individual folders and not collapsed Media items. I wasn't sure if other people had installed 4.9.3 on Synology and observed the same behavior. 1
cp41 42 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Here is a comparison. I created a new Mixed Content Library in MacOS (ARM64) and Synology NAS (DSM 7.2+). They are both running 4.9.3. They both have Legacy Scanning selected. MacOS has the single items folders shown as media content. And the multi-item folders as actual folders (the desired outcome): Synology still shows these as folders (never mind the library name as "Movies", this is set up as Mixed Content): 1
dropshadow 12 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 4.9.3.0 is working great for me. everything is back to normal once i enabled legacy scanning on my mixed content folders. thanks!
WinXP 15 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Based on that recent testing by @cp41, Legacy folder scanning in 4.9.3 appears to behave differently depending on platform. Using the same media layout and the same settings (Mixed Content library, Folder scanning mode = Legacy macOS (ARM64) Single-item folders are collapsed into media items, multi-item folders remain folders (expected / pre-4.9 behavior). Synology NAS (DSM 7.2+) Single-item folders continue to be treated as folders; Legacy scanning appears to have no effect. This was reproduced both on existing libraries (upgraded from 4.9.1.80) and on newly created Movies and Mixed Content libraries with Legacy enabled from the start. Can it be confirmed whether Legacy folder scanning is fully implemented and supported on Synology DSM builds in 4.9.3, or if this is a known platform-specific limitation or bug? 2
Steven 158 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 My server has updated but I’m unable to find the option for “Folder scanning mode = Legacy”. Whereabouts is this? Thanks

Steven 158 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Thanks. I was looking via the iOS app which wasn’t there, so had to check via the web

Steven 158 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I can also see the new movies and shows tab via the web. Will there be an option to choose the default view for mixed content, rather than it defaulting to the legacy folder view, for users that would prefer it not to?

What do you mean as the options are still there but since Movie/TV have been combine there isn't separate tabs for them even though these options field needs updated.
Steven 158 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I mean that on a mixed content folder it defaults to the folder view rather than the new movies & shows tab. It would be nice if we could choose which was the preferred.

cp41 42 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Any word on the functionality not working for Synology NAS? 1

If it was not for you I would probably think I was losing my mind with my environment not working correctly. I too want a fix for the Synology NAS, but in the hopefully short meantime (optimistically assuming a fix is in progress) it would be nice to just get an acknowledgement from the devs that they have in fact confirmed that there is a bug on that platform. Just to make sure that the two of us are not both crazy... 1
cp41 42 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Been another 2 days without any feedback from the Devs. Can we please get some confirmation or not on the issue regarding Synology 4.9.3? 1
cp41 42 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 And another two more days. Can you provide some confirmation on if Legacy scanning is working on 4.9.3 for any of your Synology testing environments? 1
mrmixed 77 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 We talked earlier in the thread about this fix potentially being a Christmas miracle. For Synology users, that has not been the case. Is there any chance we could anticipate a Groundhog Day miracle? Along with a proper increment to the version numbers so Synology Package Manager will allow me to get off the beta? Any sort of feedback would be nice, and would allow me to continue to be patient without resorting to either installing SQL Lite to edit the database, or blowing up my entire environment and reinstalling 4.8 (or quite likely both, in the event the database editing goes bad). 1
Luke 42077 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 The option that was added is the necessary first step. Now we need to determine why some still have the folder layer. I don't think it is platform-specific but rather has more to do with the contents of the folder.
Steven 158 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I had a few movies in each folder that remained displaying as folders. To resolve I deleted everything from within the folder apart from the movie, however I have now noticed that is was only affecting folders with the "extrafanart" folder within. Deleting those resolved it for me. Not sure if this is the issue with the Synology, but thought I would mention it. 1

You are saying you have a folder (for instance called [FakeMovie]) and inside you deleted all the contents of [FakeMovie] folder except the actual movie file (for instance FakeMovie.mp4) and then Emby recognized it as single media item?
mrmixed 77 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I appreciate the suggestion, @Steven! I assume you are not using a Synology NAS to host your environment, but something else? It's interesting to know that you saw this problem sporadically and were able to fix it. That's the first I've heard of this happening. Earlier, I had done a quick test and removed all files (images, NFO) and subfolders (extras, etc.) from a single-title-folder, so that the structure was literally just a single file "<movie>\<movie>.mkv", and it still shows up as a folder instead of a title following a rescan. After your suggestion, I took it a step further, and renamed the parent folder ("<renamed parent>\<movie>\<movie>.mkv") to force a completely new entry in the database, and it still shows up as folders. I literally don't see any way to make this work in my environment. Note that I'm still on the 4.9.4.1 beta. I realize the Emby devs may not typically run into this sort of issue affecting only a particular platform, but especially given @cp41's test results, I am concerned that this is an actual dev issue and I'm not sure we're going to crowdsource a workaround. Don't get me wrong--I'd be thrilled if we could, and welcome further suggestions. But I think @Lukeneeds to jump on some of our server logs, or give us a new beta with extra debugging code, or something to get this pinned down.
Steven 158 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 @cp41I am saying that any movie folder that contained the "extrafanart" folder would stop the legacy scanning from displaying the folder as a movie folder and would keep it as the folder view and not show any metadata. @mrmixedNo I'm not not using a Synology NAS, mine is a Windows setup. Sorry this didn't work for you. 1
