Emby web page issue (Ubuntu server) - "Welcome to Emby"

I recently updated my Ubuntu server with apt, last night it worked fine streaming to an LG smart TV. It also plays fine on other client's Ive tested: Android phone app, and embycon on openelec Raspberry Pi.

But today I went to the web page to play some music and was presented with this:

I have not followed the on-screen steps for fear of losing all of those carefully curated playlists and collections....  but thought I'd ask here first in case this was just a storm in a teacup and easily fixed.

Cheers, Scott.

hi, if this is a case of the server xml config file becoming corrupt, then usually you can just step through the wizard without doing anything and just clicking next all the way through.

Once you get through that, then you should give all settings a glance over because you may have to reconfigure some of them, but this file doesn't actually  hold that many settings so it shouldn't be too bad.

So hopefully that's all it is. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

Thanks, I just had a go. I firstly backed up the playlist and collections .xml and .3mu files from var/lib/emby/data.

I then went to proceed with the on-screen wizard as suggested, but it failed to work, just giving me a rotating blue circle on pressing the green "next" button.

Am I now into the territory of just re-installing Emby server? Is there a way to do this and preserve the user accounts and other settings? (Unless you can think of something else less invasive to try)

Many thanks, Scott

Pressing next where exactly? Can you get to the server log?

Thanks Luke,

The 'next' button is in the 'Welcome to Emby' screenshot in the first post. This is the only web page the server presents. I pressed the 'next' button and just got a blue circle...

If you can point me at where the log file would be on Ubuntu sever, then I will grab the log.

There is a chance something got corrupted, as my CCTV software had an isse ad filled up my root HDD,  its now cleared out, and I have given the server an update via apt.

Many thanks, Scott

What time did you try to do this? The logs look OK to me. In fact you've got a user playing from Android at the end of Oct 4.

Maybe try clearing browsing data and then see if you can step through the startup wizard.

Hi Luke, Thanks for the support... Long story short:

  • Unbeknown to me, Zoneminder had an issue saving to the dedicated CCTV HDD in the server, so it started saving recordings to the root HDD.
  • Emby would occasionally just stop working, this was due to the root HDD filling up.
  • While trying to figure out the Zoneminder issue (why it's now saving to a different place) I was going in and manually deleting the CCTV recordings. Did this a few times, then decided to stop Zoneminder from running to save the hassle fo the drive filling up every other day or so.
  • Forgetting about stopping ZM, I updated Ubuntu and rebooted the machine, and of course, Zoneminder defaulted back to running after the reboot.. filling up the root drive again.
  • The strange issue I had at the start of this topic was that normally when I cleared out the rogue files, Emby would just work again as per normal, but strangely on this occasion it gave the issues stated above.
  • Even stranger, I just tried again last night and the green button worked, so I re-created my personal account, and then the server sprang back into life as per normal, with all other user accounts, media libraries, and playlists still in place, etc..

So, I'm now in the process of replacing the CCTV dedicated drive, so all should be back to normal!

Thanks again, sorry it took me a while to figure it out, but I appreciate your assistance!

Cheers, Scott.
