how to distinguish between probing and playback requests

Hello

as lots of other people here I'm having a remote media setup. 
I play my files back via rclone and strm files.
To optimize my setup, I am currently trying to find a way to distinguish between Emby probing requests, which happen on first playback start of the strm files, and Emby playback requests in Nginx. 
First I hoped I can use the user agent, as Lavf is being used for probing. But unfortunately this is also being used for transcoding/transmuxing playback requests.
