Audio, picture and subtitles get out of sync after trying to play a video that was paused

When ever I need to resume a video that has been paused the video, audio and subtitles will be out of sync. Refreshing etc does not help. This will only happen when video is paused at some point. If I play the whole video there's no problems.

On android everything is working as expected, so the issue is with playback on browser. Tried different browsers as well, Firefox, Chrome.

@Gizorkcould you provide some more information about this issue?

Which subtitle does this happen with, is it an internal or extenal sub (srt, pgsub, dvdsub, etc)?

Can you also provide the ffmpeg transcoding log(s) at the times the issue occurs?

Hi, how does it compare in Chrome?

I have seen this happen in both Firefox and Chromium on Linux.

It seems to be more prevalent if the pause is longer than a few seconds. When I pause to listen to someone talking to me, it rarely happens but if I pause to get a snack or for a bathroom break (for example), it is almost 100% certain I will get out of sync.

If it helps, it is usually not right off the bat after resuming but you can see a skip backwards a few seconds later and this is where the vid goes back and while the audio and subtitles seem to remain on track

The stream becomes "idle" after 60 seconds of being paused and kills the ffmpeg process. When it starts up a new ffmpeg process it may not start from the exact same timestamp expected, something about key frame data I think. I really think the browser should still be reporting playback progress that the stream is paused, it used to not go idle in 60 seconds before 4.8 I believe it was, but I'm not sure if the browser player can do this compared to other apps.

Thanks @Lessajthat sounds EXACTLY like what's happening to me.

Sounds like a major bug IMO, losing control of a video steam just by pausing it over 60 seconds is a significant drawback

@exanime

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
