CineMac 1 Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Hi, new user here. Windows 10 and Emby version x64 4.9.1.80 I have added the video contents of 3 external drives in 3 libraries. Each one if configured identically. The first one, all the thumbnails for every video are the normal thumbnail you'd see on IMDB. The next 2 drives however, the thumbnails are mostly the very first frame of each video. How can I force Emby to download the thumbnails instead of a frame from the film?

I honestly don't know what else to say. I added the contents of one external drive to the library. When the thumbnails display they are the thumbnails that you'd get if you went to IMDB. However I've now also added library 2, 3 and 4. And there's no thumbnails like the first one. What Emby has done is taken the first frame from every film and used that as the thumbnail. Each library has been configured the exact same way so I can't figure why 1 is good but 2,3 and 4 are not. I wish I knew what else to say to you. I could add a screenshot if that would help, but it will show exactly what I described. If there's something you need to know just ask me, I honestly don't know what else to add.
Luke 42077 Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Quote I honestly don't know what else to say. This would be a helpful: I'm not getting thumbnails for movie _____________. My file and folders are organized and named as ____________. I have the ___________ metadata and image fetchers enabled on the library.

All files are simply in the root of the drives, and the name is simply the movie name + year of release. eg: A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) All image fetchers are enabled, all the controls have been copied from disk 1 which worked perfectly. There's a couple of metadata sections, metadate readers and savers both asking to set it as Nfo. I have enabled both.
Luke 42077 Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!

I can't find anywhere where it says 'advanced/logs'. The only log I could find was in appdata/roaming but that appears to be an install log. I'm not sure there was a specific time that an error occurred anyway. Throughout the last hour I've added 6 external drives and used their contents to make 6 libraries. The first one is perfect the rest are not. So, there's no way of telling when any error might have occurred. I hope the install log has some info in it. Have you never come across a similar problem from anyone else? server-install.log
Luke 42077 Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Quote I can't find anywhere where it says 'advanced/logs'. Did you try clicking the cog in the upper right to go to server settings? You'll find Logs in the left menu there. Ah but sorry, it was moved a little higher into the Server section, but nonetheless it's in the same menu.

There's a lot of them, probably because of 6 different drives attached. I grabbed the last 4 as the last 5 drives have all been the same. embyserver-63895050111.txt hardware_detection-63895046683.txt hardware_detection-63895048287.txt hardware_detection-63895050293.txt
Luke 42077 Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 All of your requests to both moviedb and tvdb are timing out and failing. Typical causes from this are firewall, security software, or VPN. Or that you could be getting blocked from them. Can you please look in those and let us know what you find? Also once you resolve this you will need to refresh metadata manually on impacted content. The server will not retry the failures over and over. Thanks.
CineMac 1 Posted October 3, 2025 Author Posted October 3, 2025 Just reading through this one. Is it failing to connect to the internet, so defaulting to producing a frame from the film? embyserver.txt

As far as I know nothing is hampering internet right now. Although it does get flaky from time to time like all internet. How do I refresh metadata please?
CineMac 1 Posted October 3, 2025 Author Posted October 3, 2025 I feel like I am a nuisance to you, I don't feel welcome here at all. You've not been of any help, but at least you tried, so thanks for your time. I won't come back here, I have actually fixed all of the issues I had, thanks to ChatGPT. I hope anyone coming with problems after mne has a warmer welcome. 1
