This is great news!! 😍 Can anyone confirm if Emby is already listed in the Vega OS store and if it works correctly?

Yes I can confirm, after an update of my Fire Stick select, I was able to download the Emby app and access my server. Thank you very much emby team!

How is it going overall? Anything that does not work yet (like audio support, frame rate switching etc) which worked on FireOS? how does the general performance feel in comparison to Emby for FireOS?

Little Update:
It seems the progamming was done in a way, that the app is recognizing the device as "mobile device". So you need a premium membership with emby, to watch your media.

I don't know if that was intended, I think normally you can watch on your tv without a premium membership.

Hi

same for me: without premium I am limited to 1min and no way to unlock the app like on mobile devices.

Hi Luke

so you confirm that Premiere is now the only way to have the firetv stick with Emby?

If yes, it’s a little bit too expensive for me. Ok to pay 1 time around 10€ per asset, or around 20€ per year for a family usage. But around 90€ per year is too much.

We understand that Emby needs money to survive, but it's far too expensive for the limited features it offers. If users have to pay to use it on the new Fire devices, they'll either look for an alternative or go directly to Netflix, Prime, or HBO, which have an even larger catalog for a similar price.

Emby's funding model, its premium features, and its price need to be rethought. Above all, requiring payment to use it on a platform is a serious mistake, because users will switch to other platforms immediately.

I've paid for a lifetime membership many years ago, still going strong. There are other alternatives if Emby is out of your budget.

Can you confirm that to use the new Emby on Vega OS, we need an Emby Premiere subscription?

Hi.  Yes, that is correct at this time.

Need AV1 support to be enabled:

Vega OS Device (AFTCA002) /  Fire TV Stick HD (2026)

Emby for VegaOS 0.1.0

Confirmed AV1 support here :  https://www.developer.amazon.com/docs/device-specs/device-specifications-fire-tv-streaming-media-player.html

I'll do some tests tonight, but we generally rely on the device correctly reporting it's playback support.  Do you have an ffmpeg/transcode log for an attempt playing AV1?

Note this comment: https://developer.amazon.com/docs/vega/0.22/develop-your-app-with-webview.html#:~:text=Current Fire TV devices don't yet support AV1 HDR.

I will see about logs. This was a 1080p NON-HDR AV1 .mkv source.    I admit, I probably need to do some more testing as well.  Perhaps the "Recovering from payback error" is what is forcing the video conversion?   Thanks for looking into it.

Yes, that is most likely.  The log may tell us more, but I suspect this is the issue

Since this is reporting as an HTML5 client, is the playback dependent on the internet browser that VegaOS supplies?  Perhaps this issue is actually with the .mkv container.   I will test some .mp4s.

No, that's just the default app icon on the dashboard which we haven't updated yet. mkv is fine
