Hide UI while "skipping" and playback issues (two questions)

Hello,

I have two questions.

My setup is a Android box into a Denon AVC-X3800H into my Samsung TV.

1) Android TV app vs “regular” Android app UI while skipping

I’m trying to move from the Android TV app to the regular Android app. I skip a lot (5-second jumps via the remote). In the regular Android app, the seek UI is large and pops up every time I skip, covering subtitles and generally takes a lot of space. In the Android TV app, skipping only shows a small seek bar at the bottom, so subtitles remain readable.

Can the regular Android app be configured to behave like the Android TV app (small, minimal seek UI during skips) or is it something you can implement?

2) Occasional freeze on skip (picture + audio)

Hard to reproduce, but sometimes when I skip forward the video and audio freeze. I can keep skipping, but it’s just jumping between still frames and never resumes playback until I manually restart the Android box. This has also happened when I used Emby on the Samsung TV, so it’s not limited to one app or androidbox/TV.

I suspect it’s audio-codec related, but I’m not 100% sure:

  • No problem during stereo content.
  • It happens more often with surround content.
  • When I skip, audio seems to disappear for 0.5–1.5s, then return.
  • The receiver info flips surround → stereo → surround around the time of the skip.

Has anyone seen this behavior, and is there a known fix/workaround (e.g., specific audio mode or codec handling) to prevent freezes when skipping?

One way I solved it (only for EAC3 2.0 content) was to force my Denon into DD+ stereo mode, but that's not always possible if it's 5.1 content for instance.

My bad, did not see that post.

Thanks a lot, hopefully they are working on it then. Thanks!

Freezing frames while skipping issue still there.
Even got it on EAC3 2.0 yesterday which I thought I had solved.

Edit: I'll try and get logs the next time it happens
