KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Posted September 23, 2025 I've been at this for days and it feels like one big waste of time trying to get this all working it just doesn't work nothing is working. I installed debian 13 and casaos installed emby hooked up my new hard drive that I copied some movies on that I got from my dvds that I can watch when going to the movies with debian yet I can't locate a thing in emby. I got talked into some newsgroup thing I should of said no to but I signed up to that and managed to get that all working yet can't see the hard drive I just bought. I'm new to linux but I really do like this debian better than windows 11 which I don't like at all if I can get this figured out on here. I have a splitting headache trying to get this running for my family I have no idea how you guys do all this please can you help me get some tv going. I don't care about the newsgroup thing I can do that next week but it's the kids movies I have and movies my wife bought that I copied from dvd I want to get running on emby.
KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 Another thing is this worked fine for the longest time on windows but that computer is now so full of computer viruses it hardly works and the mouse sticks on the screen and the movies can't play it keeps locking up. My goal is get this running and just leave it because I was told debian is the best to run this if I can get it running.
KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 How does this work, how long do I wait for.
KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 I plugged my hard drive into windows to use for the night but windows 11 will not even boot now it locks up and the mouse don't work so my plan is to install debian on my windows 11 computer as well and never use windows again. I'm going to do that now while I'm waiting.
KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 I have a quick question you guys, if my hard drive has computer viruses from windows well when I plug it into debian then what.

Hi, it probably will not execute on the linux machine but why take the risk? If you know that it's infect it's probably best to reformat right away.
KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 All my movies are on it for the kids so now what.
KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 My wife cancelled disney because of something she seen on facebook the whole worlds gone crazy. Should I just get netflix and try this another time I work 3 jobs and can't sit in front of a computer trying to make ends meet with our bills.
KDevonshire 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 Yeah I can't do this right now after I get debian installed on the living room pc tower I'm going to bed I need to be up early for work. I own the one time pay for emby so I can do this another time thank you fella. I will try this again another day maybe sometime on the weekend thank you but I'm just beat burning the candle at both ends trying to keep up. 1
