Rescan My NAS Drive and Not Automatically Update My Metadata

Hi! I’m new to the community. I’ve had a Synology NAS for 15 years, with many video files on it, but I’ve only accessed them via Roku’s Media Player. Recently, I’ve signed up for Emby, and I’m eager to take full advantage of its many exciting features.

 

I have a specific naming convention (YEAR Title, i.e. “1975 Jaws”) which I’d like to continue using if possible. Emby’s found my files and folders without a problem, and I’m game to add the IMDB Ids manually.

 

But I have two questions about the preferences or settings, and as I’m still a newbie, I’m having difficulty figuring the best way to adjust them to my liking.

 

First has to do with refreshing the library’s files. When I add a file to my NAS, I don’t see that reflected in Emby. How can I manually have Emby scan my NAS to look for changes/deletions?

 

Second, since I want to control the metadata entry manually, how do I stop Emby from re-scanning on that level? I think I’ve shut this fucntion off, but I’m not sure.

 

I’m sorry if I’m asking Emby 101 questions here instead of getting my answers from the support database. But I don’t know the Emby “language” well enough yet to understand the variables. I’ve def reviewed the various articles, but for now they’re confusing me more than helping.

Hi, doesn’t the normal library scan pick up the new content? You can either wait for the next one or start a scan manually.

OK, I think I had one of those moments where I realize I'm becoming my parents. (Ever have one of those?) I no longer have an issue with refreshing my library as is now doing exactly what I expected it to do: when I move files around on the NAS, Emby promptly updates. 

So, let me return to my manual ID'ing and I may not need any more add'l help! Thx!
